Masi Magam is one of the most important festivals celebrated every February/March on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Masi. Pilgrims bathe in the sea when idols of deities from about 40 temples from the surrounding area are taken in colorful procession for a ceremonial immersion. 'Fire walking' (men walking on burning coal) sometimes accompanies festivities.

The Sani Peyarchi Festival held once every three years is Pondicherry's 'Kumbh Mela'. Devotees throng the city to Karaikal (140 kms away) to the temple of Lord Saneeswara (Lord Saturn) at Thirunallar.
