Pykara (21 km)
Located on the Ooty-Mysore road, the Pykara Dam, the Falls and the reservoir are worth a visit. With well protected shola vegetation and Toda settlements, the area boasts of pretty grass meadows and some good wildlife. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) maintains a boat house and restaurant here.
Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary (65 km)
Sprawling over an area of 321 sq km, the hilly terrain of the sanctuary is enveloped in moist deciduous forests. The Moyar River acts as the dividing line between the Mudhumalai and the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary. The fauna includes the Elephant, Gaur, Python and Spotted Deer to name a few. You will also find a large number of avian species including some migratory water birds.
Avalanche (28 km)
This scenic lake boasts of some breath-taking beauty, surrounded as it is by thick sholas, which are almost impenetrable by sunlight. This is one of the best spots for Trout fishing and rods can be hired from the trout hatchery. Enjoy the avifauna and take trip to MacIvor's Bund, 7 km from here.
