Air: The nearest airport is Pantnagar, 72 km away, but flights are not operational at present.
Rail: Nearest railhead is Kathgodam, 27 km away. Daily overnight train 'Ranikhet Express' connects Delhi to Kathgodam.
Road: Nainital is well connected by road with all important destinations. Regular buses ply from Delhi (304 km), most of which leave from ISBT Anand Vihar and are run by Uttaranchal Roadways. However, we find the deluxe Volvos being run by private operators a much more convenient and comfortable option.
Taxis and buses are also available in great numbers from Kathgodam and nearby Haldwani, 40 km from Nainital. Taxis charge Rs. 500. You can also share a cab at Rs 50 per person.
The drive from Delhi to Nainital takes about eight and a half hours. The route is via Noida, Hapur, Muradabad, Rudrapur, Hadwani and Kathgoadam, if you come via Kathgodam, and via Noida, Hapur, Muradabad, Kashipur, Ramnagar if you come via Corbett.
