Hadimba Temple
Also known as the Dhoongri Temple, this shrine is dedicated to Goddess Hadimba, wife of Bhima (one of the five Pandavas of Mahabharatha). She was the patron goddess of the Kullu royal family. The temple has been built around a natural cave, which enshrines the footprints of the goddess. It is embellished with a four tiered Pagoda shaped roof and a doorway carved with legendary figures and symbols. Built in 1553 this temple stands in the middle of a forest called Dhungiri Van Vihar.
Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa
This monastery was built by Tibetan refugees in the 1960s. It is enveloped in brightly coloured frescoes and a mid-sized Buddhist statute. The Gompa stands at the bottom of the Mall dominating the Tibetan area. It also has a list of Tibetan martyrs killed in the Tibetan occupation of 1987-89.
Temple of Manu
The only temple in India dedicated to Maharishi Rishi Manu, the creator of the human race; this temple lies only about three kilometers from the main bazaar at Old Manali. Legend has it that sage Manu stepped off his ark in Manali to recreate human life after a great flood had deluged the world.
Tibetan Monasteries
Manali has three newly constructed Tibetan monasteries, from where you can pick up some good carpets and other Tibetan handicrafts. Two of these are located in the town and one at Aleo on the left bank of Beas River.
Arjun Gufa
This cave of Arjuna stands near the village of Prini, on the banks of the Beas River around five kilometers from Manali. Arjuna is said to have practiced austerities here to gain the Pashupata Ashtra or weapon from Lord Indra.
