Air: Amritsar is well connected by air with the rest of the country as well as with international destinations. Its Raja Sansi Airport is 12 km northwest of the city. Pre paid taxis and autos are available here. The auto rickshaws charge about Rs. 100. Do haggle.
Rail: Very well connected with the rest of the country by rail, the best approach to Amritsar is by the Swarn Shatabdi Express from Delhi (410 km). The journey takes 5 hours and 40 minutes and is via Ambala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwada and Beas. The Samjhauta Express that connects Lahore with Delhi passes through Attari, 25 km from Amritsar.
The railways station is centrally located, a 15 minute drive to the Golden Temple. An ATM and the tourist information centre greet you just as you exit.
Road: The famous GT road leads you to this city, well connected with the rest of North India by state as well as private buses. The interstate bus terminus is 2 km from the railway station. We like the deluxe air conditioned Volvos that ply from Chandigarh, even if you have to put up with interminable Hindi films.
