Tourist

Note (28th April, 2010): Effective immediately as per the High Commission policy all the documents submitted along with the Visa Application form should be in Original or Certified/ Notarized by the Notary Public. Documents in any other language should be translated in English except the Visa Form.

  • APPLICATION FORM: An "Application for Visiting New Zealand" and the supplementary visitor information form must be fully completed in English. Answer each question on the form and continue that question on a separate sheet if necessary.
  • PHOTO:Two recent passport sized photo (less than 6 months old) of each person included in the application must be affixed to the application form.
  • PASSPORT OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT: Passports must be valid for 3 months beyond intended date of departure from New Zealand.
  • EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT WHILE VISITING NEW ZEALAND: Either, evidence of funds to support yourself which must be a minimum of NZ$1,000.00 per month of stay. This can be in the form of bank records, copy of available credit card or other forms of financial background. OR "Sponsoring Form" for visiting, completed by your sponsor in New Zealand, along with evidence your sponsor has supplied of their ability to support you while you are in New Zealand. The Sponsoring Form should be submitted in original.
  • ADDITIONAL SUPPORTING INFORMATION: If travelling on business or attending a conference, evidence of business dealings or business contacts in New Zealand such as invitations or correspondence with New Zealand business parties must be provided. This information is not required if you have travelled previously to New Zealand on business. To enable us to make an informed decision, please provide any additional information which proves you will be a genuine short-term visitor to New Zealand, and shows you have incentive to return to your home country after visiting New Zealand such as
    • A letter of leave from your employer. Letters from an employer should include annual income (including bonus), length of employment and position held. Also, it must be on company letterhead, bearing the stamp of the company and the signature of the head of the company or the authorised person of the personnel department. If you are self-employed, business or company registration certificate showing proof of ownership and company bank statements must be submitted.
    • Personal Bank statement for the last six months. If there are large cash deposits in the account, you must provide documentary evidence of source of these funds.
    • Evidence of any previous overseas travel i.e. clear copy of visas on passport.
    • Your travel/flight bookings/itinerary/tickets if applying for a Limited Purpose Visa or Transit visa.
    • Completed supplementary information sheet.
  • X-RAY FOR TUBERCULOSIS SCREENING IF YOUR INTENDED STAY IN NEW ZEALAND IS FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS:
    • Applicants for temporary entry to New Zealand must have an acceptable standard of health, unless they have been issued or granted a visitor's visa for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment or have been granted a medical waiver.
    • All applicants, from a high incidence TB country, intending to be in New Zealand for more than 6 months have to undergo TB screening and provide a certificate & x-ray of chest issued by a panel doctor.     • People who have spent a combined total of 3 months or more (in the five years before the application) in any high incidence TB country will also need to be tested for TB.
    • Your travel/flight bookings/itinerary/tickets if applying for a Limited Purpose Visa or Transit visa.
    • Pregnant women and children below the age of 11 years are not required to have a chest x-ray.
  • Processing time is 10 working days or more.

  • A Covering Letter from the Individual or Business House detailing the purpose of the visit.
  • A Letter of Invitation from the Business Associate/ s in New Zealand is required.
  • One visa form (photocopy allowed).
  • One passport-size photograph, less than one year old (for each member of the family, if they are traveling).
  • Confirmed onward/ return air ticket is recommended as a support document.
  • Onward country visa.
  • Returns for the last 3 years.
  • Recognised Credit Cards with sufficient funds.
  • Evidence of employment and evidence of previous travel if any.
  • Proof of funds like bank statements for the last 6 months and Income Tax.
  • The proof of funds can also be in the form of one of the following:
    • NZD at the rate of 1000 per head per month, if accommodation is not pre-paid.
    • NZD at the rate of 400 per head per month, if accommodation is pre-paid. Evidence of such accommodation like as pre-paid hotel vouchers will be needed.
    • A Guarantee of accommodation and maintenance from the Sponsor in New Zealand is required. The Sponsor can be a friend/ relative who is a Citizen or a Resident of New Zealand. In this case, the original sponsorship form needs to be submitted when applying for the visa.
  • Visa is valid for maximum period of 3 months from the date of issue.
  • Processing time is 3 working days or more.

Transit

Indian Nationals need to apply for a transit visa if traveling between New Zealand and Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Solomon Island, Tahiti, Tonga, Vanuatu and Western Samoa, for less than 24 hours and will not leave the transit area of the airport. If travelers wish to leave the transit area of the airport or remain longer than a 24 hour period, they should apply for a Visitor visa.

  • The Applicant should have a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from New Zealand (photocopy of the first & last pages).
  • One visa form (photocopy allowed).
  • The form can be used by a single Applicant or by a family which includes the principal Applicant, Spouse and dependent Children below 20 years of age.
  • One passport-size photograph, less than one year old (for each member of the family, if they are traveling).
  • Confirmed onward/ return air ticket.
  • Onward country visa.
  • A detailed itinerary.
  • Recognised Credit Cards with sufficient funds.
  • Evidence of employment and evidence of previous travel if any.
  • Proof of funds like bank statements for the last 6 months and Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years..
  • The proof of funds can also be in the form of one of the following:

Seamen

  • A detailed itinerary.
  • A Covering Letter from the Indian Shipping Company explaining the purpose of the visit.
  • Indian Seamen traveling on duty must hold a Letter of Guarantee from the Shipping Company with Seamen book.
  • A Letter from the Shipping Agent in New Zealand should be faxed directly to the Embassy stating the particulars of the Seamen, and the date and port of their joining the Ship.
  • Evidence of employment and evidence of previous travel if any.
  • Proof of funds like bank statements for the last 6 months and Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years.
  • Visa is valid for maximum period of 3 months from the date of issue.
  • Processing time is 3 working days or more.

Work Visa

  • The Applicant must have an Employment Contract from the Employer in New Zealand.
  • An Approval-in-Principle from the New Zealand Immigration Service is required.
  • All Qualification Certificates inclusive of previous work experience/ s.
  • All documents must be provided in original along with certified copies.
  • If the Contract is for more than 24 months, a Medical Check Certificate by an Embassy approved doctor and a Police Clearance Certificate from the passport office must also be enclosed.
  • Verifications for all documentation will be required.
  • A personal interview is the norm in most cases.
  • Processing time is 4 to 6 working days.

Student

  • Student Visa application form and the supplementary information form: Please ensure that ALL questions on the Student Visa Application Form AND the Supplementary Information Form (attached with the checklist) complete with the family details of the applicant (pages 6 and 7 of this guide) are answered fully and in English. Both forms should be signed and dated.
  • Passport or travel document: Passports must be valid for 3 months beyond intended date of departure from New Zealand. Passports should be submitted in original along with the application. In cases where the original passport cannot be submitted, applicants can submit attested copy of the complete passport.
  • Photograph: Two recent passport sized photograph (must be less than 6 months old) should be affixed to the visa application form and medical and X-ray certificates.
  • Covering letter: Please give the background of the student covering the evidence of funds and the student's English Language ability. In addition please provide a statement of purpose which should contain reasons as to why the student is applying, what he/she wishes to do and how the course would help him/her in the future. This statement of purpose should be hand-written by the student himself/herself.
  • Offer of a place and accommodation guarantee:The offer of a place at an educational institution should provide the following details:
    • The name of the course and the minimum time required for completion.
    • Evidence that the course meets foreign student policy requirements.
    • A Guarantee of accommodation and maintenance from the Sponsor in New Zealand is required. The Sponsor can be a friend/ relative who is a Citizen or a Resident of New Zealand. In this case, the original sponsorship form needs to be submitted when applying for the visa.
    • notification of the amount of the fee for the complete course or, where the course is longer than one year, the annual fee.
    • whether the student does or does not have to pay course fees.
    • Guarantee of accommodation from either the institution or from a person prepared to provide accommodation in New Zealand has to be attached.
    • Where accommodation in New Zealand is being guaranteed by an individual, please provide evidence that the guarantor is able to provide the accommodation undertaken.
  • Financial Documents: You must submit evidence of sufficient funds for maintenance during your stay in New Zealand including:
    • Financial Undertaking Form/s (If more than one guarantor).
    • Affidavit/s of Support from Guarantors (also stating the exact relationship of the guarantor with the applicant). The guarantor must provide documentary evidence of their identity including date of birth, proof of signature and full contact details including telephone numbers.
    • Authorisation letter/s from guarantors authorising New Zealand Immigration Service to verify their financial documents on their behalf. If guarantors are outside India the contact name and telephone numbers/e-mail addresses of officials in the Bank who can be contacted for verification. d) The students should provide evidence of funds upfront for the first 12 months of study inclusive of living expenses (NZ$10,000 per annum) in New Zealand. If the duration of course is longer, students should provide a plan of payment to show that they have access to funds and have the ability to meet the rest of the course cost and living expenses. If the duration of course is longer, students should provide a plan of payment to show that they have access to funds and have the ability to meet the rest of the course cost and living expenses. We accept the following evidence of funds:
      • Education loan sanction letter from a nationalised or multi national bank only.
      • Latest bank statements for the past 6 months. It should not be more than 1 week old at the time of lodgement of the application. Please ensure that statements and not balance certificates are provided.
      • Fixed Deposits. In case of providing fixed deposits as evidence of funds please ensure that a copy/counterfoil of the deposit along with a letter from the bank giving the details of the deposit is provided.
      • Public Provident Fund Accounts/Employers Provident Fund Accounts.
      • Post Office Accounts.
      • National Saving Certificates.
    • Please note that the telephone numbers along with the STD codes of the place/institution where the funds shown can be verified should be provided with the financial documents.
    • Applicants are required to provide documentary evidence of income and source of income of their parents, even if the cost of study is being sponsored by another person.
  • Educational certificates (with translations if required)
    • Class 10 & Class 12.
    • Graduation Certificate.
    • A Guarantee of accommodation and maintenance from the Sponsor in New Zealand is required. The Sponsor can be a friend/ relative who is a Citizen or a Resident of New Zealand. In this case, the original sponsorship form needs to be submitted when applying for the visa.
    • Post Graduate Certificate.
    • Other courses and Diplomas done
    • All the above should have transcripts also attached
    • Please note that if you intend to pursue aviation or marine courses in New Zealand, then evidence of your related qualification and/or work experience should be provided.
  • Evidence of Employment: If you are working and/or have worked in the past please provide all work references from your employers on company letterhead. The company address and phone number must be included on the letter.
  • Health Requirements:
    • Applicants, who intend to be in New Zealand for more than 6 months but less than 12 months, must undergo a TB screening X-ray unless:
      • they are pregnant; or
      • they are under 11 years of age.
    • The certificate should be no longer than 3 months old at the date of submission and the applicants must provide the following:
      • A fully completed Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate form, NZIS 1096; and
      • Any associated medical reports required for the X-ray.
    • All applicants who intend to stay in New Zealand for a total of more than 12 months must undergo a full medical and x-ray examination.
    • Submission of TB screening and report and/or full medical report (as applicable) is a mandatory lodgement requirement.
    • Police Clearance Certificate: All applicants who are above the age of 17 years and intend to stay in New Zealand for a total of more than 24 months must provide their Police Clearance Certificate. Certificates must be less than 6 months old at the time it is submitted to us. For applicants in India, only Police Clearance Certificates issued from the Regional Passport Office (The passport office which has issued your passport) of the Ministry of External Affairs or from the Office of Deputy Commissioner of Police are acceptable. Applicants in other countries should contact the local police authorities
    • Please note that if you intend to pursue aviation or marine courses in New Zealand, then evidence of your related qualification and/or work experience should be provided.
  • If the Course is for more than 24 months, a Medical Check Certificate by an Embassy approved doctor and a Police Clearance Certificate from the passport office must also be enclosed.

Group visa

This visa is required if a number of people are traveling for the same purpose, have the same travel arrangements and a have a representative to take charge of the visa and arrival formalities. Bigger groups should be presented in smaller numbers (e.g. a total of 20 applicants can be divided into two groups of 10 persons each)

  • A Letter from the Tour Organiser with a comprehensive list of the Passengers names and passport details is required.
  • Evidence of funds and employment of each Applicant.
  • Detailed itinerary of the Group.
  • Copies of all documentation should be attached to each application

Film Groups

  • A copy of the Approval-in-Principle from Immigration Authorities in New Zealand.
  • A No-Objection-Certificate from the National Distribution Union of New Zealand or the Actor's Equity in New Zealand or the Technicians Guild is required.
  • The Certificate should state the Names and occupation of all the group members.
  • A Letter of Clearance from the Reserve Bank of India for the funds to be taken abroad for the filming.
  • A Certificate from a reputed film laboratory is required, stating the number of rolls of negatives required or held for that particular film are required.
  • If the Company is on its first overseas visit, evidence of their past Production is also required.
