Applicants can visit Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.

• Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family or friends.
• Business visitor activities may include attending a conference, negotiation or an exploratory business visit.

This visa has replaced the following earlier categories as below:

• Tourist visa (subclass 676)
• Sponsored Family Visitor visa (subclass 679)
• Business (Short Stay) visa (subclass 456)
• Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) visa (subclass 459).

The Visitor visa (subclass 600) is for people who want to travel Australia as tourists, for business or to visit family. It is a temporary visa.

This visa has four streams:
• Tourist stream: for people travelling to Australia for a holiday, recreation or to visit family and friends. If you apply for this visa in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is decided. If you apply for this visa outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is decided.
• Business Visitor stream: for business people travelling to Australia for a short business visit. This includes going to a conference, negotiation or meeting. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided.
• Sponsored Family stream: for people travelling to Australia to visit their family. You must have a sponsor who might be requested to provide a bond. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided. You cannot apply for another visa while you are in Australia.

General Reuirements:

• Applicants have to submit Notarised copy of all pages of current passport, including the bio data page, alterations page and back page of the passport (unless requested to send original passport). (Please note, VFS Global can certify a copy of your passport at their office at the time of Submission).
• Complete this section only if you are lodging a paper application:
• If someone gives you advice or lodges your application for you: Form 956 Advice by a migration agent/exempt person of providing immigration assistance (the agent or exempt person completes the form and you must sign it)
• If you would like someone to receive correspondence from the department on your behalf: Form 956A Appointment or withdrawal of an authorised recipient (the recipient completes the form and you must sign it)

• Evidence of enrolment at school, college or university.

Additional Requirements for Tourist Stream:

• Completed application forms (Form 1419) for a Visitor Visa- Tourist Visitor Stream.
• If you are visiting relatives or friends, a letter of invitation from your relative or friend in Australia. If your relative or friend is paying for your visit, evidence that they have the necessary funds.
• If you are going for your daughter/daughter-in-law's pregnancy, then a letter from a medical doctor confirming the condition.
• If you are going for a medical emergency then a letter from the hospital/doctor stating the condition of the patient.
• If you are going for a student exchange then a letter stating the arrangements that have been made.
• Itinerary giving travel details, accommodation and activities within Australia.
• Proof of Funds:
• Copies of bank statements (personal and business) over a period of time showing a consistent savings history.
• Copies of documents which show any other funds or assets held.
• Taxation documents for the last three years.
• If a friend/relative in Australia is paying for your visit then a Statutory Declaration stating the relative or friend's support and evidence of their financial capacity to do so - for example a letter of invitation, bank statements and tax documents.
• It is important to provide evidence of your own financial status even if your trip is being funded by a friend or a relative. Your own financial status is a factor we consider in assessing whether your personal circumstances would encourage you to return to your home country.
• Employment Details:
• If you are employed: Letter from your employer - stating your position and salary, length of employment, confirming your leave of absence and the name and contact details of the person providing the letter.
• If you are self-employed and running your own business: Business registration.
• If you are retired: Evidence of your retirement - for example a letter from your employer.
• If you are a student: Evidence of your enrolment such as letter from your education institute.
• Applicants over 75 years of age and any applicant requesting a stay of 12 months must provide evidence of Overseas Health Insurance.
• AusAID student or recipient: A letter of support from the AusAID Minister.

Additional Requirements for Business Visitor Stream:

• Completed application forms (Form 1415) for a Visitor Visa- Business Visitor Stream.
• Proof of Funds:
• You should provide evidence of sufficient funds (bank statements, letter from financial institution concerning your financial position etc).
• Evidence of the visit to Australia on business, such as:
• A letter of invitation from the host organisation in Australia
• Conference registration details.
• A letter from your employer stating the reasons for your visit
• Your itinerary, with contact details of the business parties involved
• Your employment contract.
• Educational or professional qualifications Certificates.
• Provide the details of previous contacts with Australian businesspeople or organisations in Australia.
• Documents to show that the company you work for is an actively operating business, such as a business registration certificate or annual report.
• Employment Details
• If you are employed: Letter from your employer - stating your position and salary, length of employment, confirming your leave of absence and the name and contact details of the person providing the letter.
• If you are self-employed and running your own business: Business registration.
• AusAID student or recipient: A letter of support from the AusAID Minister.

Additional Requirements for Sponsored Family Stream:

• Completed application forms (Form 1418) for a Visitor Visa- Sponsored Family Stream and Sponsor completes: Form 1149 Application for sponsorship for Sponsored Family Visitors.
• If the Applicant is applying online complete: Form 1149 Application for sponsorship for sponsored family and scan and attach to the online application.
• Certified copies of marriage certificates or relationship registrations for you, your partner or anyone else included in your application, even if they are not joining you in Australia.
• If you are living in a de facto relationship: independent evidence that you have been in the relationship for at least 12 months (for example, joint bank account statements or billing accounts in joint names).
• If you or anyone included in the application has been widowed, divorced or permanently separated: a certified copy of the death certificate, divorce decree absolute, or statutory declaration/separation certificate.
• Evidence of dependency for all dependants aged 18 or older (such as evidence of current studies):
• a certified copy of their birth certificate and proof of their relationship to you
• proof that the relative lives in your household
• proof that your relative has been dependent on you for at least the 12 months immediately before you lodge your application.
• Security bond:
• The department decides on a case-by-case basis whether to ask for a security bond. The department will tell you in writing if you need to provide a bond.
• Is usually between AUD5000 and AUD15 000 per person (but the department can ask for any amount).
• must be paid in full before a final decision can be made on the visa application.
• is refunded if your visitor leaves Australia before their visa expires and, if they have complied with all visa conditions.

This visa allows business people to make a short business visit to Australia for up to three (3) months during your visa validity period. Business activities may include a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit.

This visa is available to all passport holders who want to visit Australia for business purposes. No sponsorship is required.

This visa has replaced the work entitlements of the earlier categories as below:

• Business (Short Stay) visa (subclass 456)
• Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) visa (subclass 459)
• Electronic Travel Authority (Business Entrant-Short Validity) (subclass 977)
• Electronic Travel Authority (Business Entrant-Long Validity) (subclass 956)
• eVisitor visa (subclass 651).

If you already hold one of the above visas, it will still be valid until the date you were given when it was granted.

• Applicants have to submit Notarised copy of all pages of current passport, including the bio data page, alterations page and back page of the passport (unless requested to send original passport). (Please note, VFS Global can certify a copy of your passport at their office at the time of Submission).
• A completed application form (Form 1400) for a Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa.
• For anyone included in the application who is 18 years of age or older and is not your partner: Form 47A Details of child or other dependent family member aged 18 years or over.
• If you want to bring a child younger than 18 years of age with you to Australia, and that child's other parent is not included in the application: documentary evidence that you have the legal right to include that child in your application, such as:
• certified copies of official legal documents, such as a court-issued custody, access or guardianship order
• a statutory declaration giving their permission.

• You must show details of the position, the duration of the work, your role or duties and the reason you are required in Australia or
• If you are doing freelance work: a copy of your proposed itinerary covering the above points.
• If you are applying to work on an entertainment industry production: evidence that the production will not be shown in Australia, such as a distribution contract.
• AusAID student or recipient: A letter of support from the AusAID Minister.
• Health and Police Clearance Certificate can be asked by the High Commission.
• Proof of Funds:

• Your current employment and your role during your visit to Australia.

• For an amateur sports participant or assisting an amateur participant or team: your invitation to the event, stating this information
• To act as a representative of a foreign government: a letter from your ministry or government.
• If you are in a class of people participating in an activity specified in a legislative instrument: evidence from the inviting organisation that you are in that class of people.

Applicants must provide certified copies of original documents. Do not include original documents unless specifically requested by the department. Documents not in English must be accompanied by accredited English translations.

Note: The Visa Application Charge will not be refunded if a decision is made to refuse to grant the visa because the applicant did not satisfy the criteria for grant of the visa.

This is a temporary visa for the following activities / purposes:

• Have medical treatment or medical consultations in Australia.
• Donate an organ.
• Support the person who is having medical treatment in Australia.
• Study for up to three months, unless you are younger than 18 and your circumstances change while you are in Australia
• Travel to Australia either:
• Once to enter the country until your treatment plan is completed, or
• As many times as you want while your visa is valid.

You cannot apply for this visa to have medical treatment for surrogate motherhood.

To be granted this visa you must also:

• Meet financial, health and character requirements
• Not have a medical condition that could be a threat to public health
• Not hold either of the following visas:
• A Domestic Worker (Diplomatic/Consular) visa (the original subclass 426 visa)
• The Domestic Worker stream of the Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (the original subclass 403 visa).

Financial requirements

• You must provide evidence that you have enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia. You must also show that you have enough money for your travel and treatment. You must also show that you have made arrangements for:
• Your treatment
• Other expenses related to your stay in Australia
• The expenses of anyone who comes with you to Australia (this includes the organ donor's expenses).
• You must show that payment for any treatment in a public hospital has been approved by the treating hospital.

• Evidence you have enough money to support yourself and anyone who comes with you while you are in Australia. This should include letters from any Australians who will be supporting you during your stay.
• A letter from the treating doctor or hospital saying they are satisfied with arrangements for payment.
• If you are going to be treated in a public hospital, the letter about payment arrangements must:
• Come from the financial officer or the administration department of the public hospital
• Confirm that no Australian will be disadvantaged in accessing medical services as a result of your treatment.
• Health and Police Clearance Certificate can be asked by the High Commission.

If you apply for this visa in Australia: pay the visa application charge. There is no charge if you apply outside Australia or you are a representative of a foreign government.

The long stay temporary business visa (subclass 457) covers both skilled specialists and business executives. Visas may be granted for a period between 3 months and 4 years. Persons wishing to apply under either of these two categories should lodge a subclass 457 visa using application form 1066 and visa fee, in the form of a bank draft payable to the "Australian High Commission" in New Delhi and "Australian Consulate General Mumbai.

• Four recent passport size photographs of each Applicant.
• Evidence of Employer's approved nomination and sponsorship (letters from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs in Australia).
• Evidence of professional qualifications.
• Evidence of employment experience of last 5 years. Total period, if Applicant has been in service for less than that in the form of employment references, duty statements, salary advice, appointment and resignation letters, i-cards. Please provide any two of the mentioned documents which confirm the period of employment with each employer.
• Birth certificate for each Applicant (Applicants who do not have a birth certificate may submit their Secondary or Higher School Certificate issued by the relevant State Education Board).
• Marriage certificate (if spouse is included in application OR applies subsequently) along with marriage photographs.
• For dependents, applying subsequently and not already included in the nomination, a letter of support from Applicant's employer clearly stating intention of the employer to extend its sponsorship obligations to the dependents.
• Original documents should be submitted together with photocopies and will be returned when after processing.
• Processing time varies according to workload and season. It is advisable to submit the application 4-6 weeks before intended date of travel. Time taken finally depends on the need for a medical examination, additional documentation or an interview.

Temporary Residence visas allow people to live or work in Australia for a limited time, for example as entertainers, sports people, religious workers and those seeking further training in their occupational field. Most subclasses require sponsorship by an Australian organization which must be approved by a DIMA Office in Australia.

Visa fee should be in the form of a bank draft payable to the "Australian High Commission" in New Delhi and "Australian Consulate General" Mumbai for the amount of INR 10300.

Suggested documentation to submit along with visa application:

Evidence of Employer's approved nomination (mandatory requirement), if applying as a Medical Practitioner, Regional Worker or Occupational Trainee (unless training with the Australian Government).

For all other cases, if intended to stay in Australia for more than 3 months, either a formal nomination or a letter of Invitation from sponsor in Australia is required.

• Evidence of professional qualifications (if Applicant is a medical practitioner, please include a copy of medical registration certificate).
• Evidence of employment experience of last 5 years. Total period, if Applicant has been in service for less than that in the form of employment references, duty statements, salary advice, appointment and resignation letters, i-cards. Please provide any two of the mentioned documents which confirm the period of employment with each employer.
• If applying for an entertainment or sport visa, evidence of cultural/sporting performances, including participation in national/international events along with training/photos/newspaper clippings should be enclosed.
• If applying for a religious worker visa, evidence of religious activities (qualifications/training/experience/photos/newspaper clippings).
• Birth certificate for each Applicant (Applicants who do not have a birth certificate may submit their Secondary or Higher School Certificate issued by the relevant State Education Board).
• Marriage certificate (if spouse is included in the application).
• For dependents of Religious Workers, Entertainers, Media & Film Staff, a formal sponsorship from Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, clearly stating the Employer's intention to extend sponsorship obligations to the dependants is needed.

• Visa for entry to third country (if required).

• Sea Crew arriving in Australia from 1 January 2008 will be required to hold a Maritime Crew Visa (MCV).
• A fine of AUD$5000 may be issued to the Ship's Master or Agent for every foreign crew member in breach of the requirement. In addition, crew will be restricted to the vessel while in Australia.
• To apply for a Maritime Crew Visa visit: www.immi.gov.au/sea
• Crew arriving before 1, January 2008: Those who do not hold an MCV and have not departed before 1 January 2008, are allowed to remain in Australia lawfully as the Special Purpose Visa remains valid until their departure. On leaving Australia they must apply for the MCV.
• Crew traveling to Australia by air: The MCV is not valid for travel to Australia by air. Crews traveling by air to join their ship need another visa, such as an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), Transit Visa, Tourist Visa, or Short Say Business visa. They must also hold an MCV to sign onto the ship.

• Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) or Completed Acceptance Advice for Secondary Exchange Students (AASES) form.
• These copies should include a photocopy of the biodata page and any page showing endorsements or change of name. For current Indian passports a good quality photocopy of the back page with information on parents' names and previous passports. The passport photocopies do not need to be certified.
• Form 157A Application to visit Australia for on a Student (temporary) Visa,
• If Applicant wishes to appoint a migration agent or other authorized person to receive communication regarding the application from the department, Form 956 Appointment of a Migration Agent or Exempt Agent or Other Authorized Recipient.
• Recent passport photo with head and shoulders only, against a plain background.
• Evidence of relationship between members of the family unit certificates, like Certified or Notarized copies of birth, and Marriage Certificates. (Including of those who are not joining the Applicant in Australia).
• If married, evidence that the marriage is genuine and ongoing, like a selection of wedding photos and other photos, affidavits from couple and third parties or evidence of joint ownership of assets/finances.
• Financial documents, including evidence of funds held on loan and/or scholarship and evidence of income.
• Copies of academic documents like certificates, diplomas, degrees and academic transcripts.
• For students under 18 years, evidence of welfare and consent arrangements (see http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/index.htm and follow the links to the relevant checklist).
• For any original documents which are to be returned, please provide copies and place the originals in a separate envelope.
• Student Applicants should lodge applications no more than 3 months and at least 8 weeks before course commencement dates. Some applications take longer to process. Students may be asked to undertake further medicals and some delays may be experienced due to the need to verify bank or education documents.
• English proficiency (for subclasses, 570, 572, 573, 574 & 575):
• IELTS certificate, or
• If applicable evidence of sponsorship by your Government or the Australian Government, or
• Evidence of sponsorship by multilateral agency (eg World Bank)

What is an ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authority (ETC) is an electronically stored authority to travel to Australia for a short stay. The ETA allows people to visit Australia for short term tourism or business purposes of up to three months. There is an AUD20 service fee only for an online application for each ETA applicant. An ETA is available to passport holders from over 30 countries, regions and locations.

The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (subclass 601) lets you enter Australia as many times as you want for up to 12 months if you are:

• A tourist.
• Travelling for business purposes.

You can stay in Australia for up to three months on each visit.

The ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the ETA is granted.

An ETA is linked electronically to your passport. It can be seen by staff at airlines, travel agencies and Australian border agencies.

What this Electronic Travel Authority lets you do: Your ETA lets you enter Australia for up to three months at a time as a tourist or for business purposes. Business activities include:

• Making general business or employment enquiries
• Investigating, negotiating, signing or reviewing a business contract
• Carrying out activities as part of an official government-to-government visit
• Participating in conferences, trade fairs or seminars, as long as you are not being paid by the organisers for your participation.

Eligible passports: To apply, you must hold a citizen passport issued by one of the countries listed below. If you hold a non-citizen passport or other travel document, such as a Certificate of Identity, you are not eligible to apply for an ETA. Eligible passports are issued by:

Lodge your application online: You can apply for this ETA online at Electronic Travel Authority if you hold a citizen passport from one of the following countries:

• Brunei
• Canada
• Hong Kong (SAR)
• Japan
• Malaysia
• Singapore
• South Korea
• United States.

When you lodge your application, the department will give you a Transaction Reference Number (TRN). Keep a record of this so you can follow the progress of your application.

You will need your passport, an email address and a credit card to pay the application charge when you apply.

Note: Holders of Taiwan passports in Taiwan can apply through an approved ETA travel agent in Taiwan. Holders of Taiwan passports outside Taiwan can apply for an ETA at their closest Australian visa office.
