South African Airways Baggage Allowance

The Baggage Allowance policy of South African Airways allows free checked baggage allowance of 40 kilograms for First Class, 30 kilograms for Business Class, and 20 kilograms for Economic Class passengers. Any kind of carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of the passenger. The airline has a special baggage allowance of 40 kilograms for all Bonafide Students travelling on Student tickets, traveling between South Africa and other destinations in Africa. South African Airways offers scheduled services to 30 international destinations in 26 countries in Africa, Asia, the America, Europe, and Australasia. South African Airways, along with British Airways, Air France, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, Qantas and Singapore Airlines (from 27 March 2011), is one of the few airlines to have services to all 6 inhabited continents. The airline announced in December, 2010 about its decision to include six more routes in Africa, including a new route to Benin, Cotonou, and resumption of routes to Cameron and Ghana.

History about South African Airways

South African Airways was founded in the year 1934 after the acquisition of Union Airways by the government of South Africa. Initially, the airline was controlled and overseen by South African Railways and Harbours Administration. The airline suffered forced sanction during apartheid by many of the African countries, due to which South African Airways adopted long-range aircrafts and other measures to counter restrictions imposed. The airline operated by its Afrikaans name, Suid-Afrikaanse Lugdiens (SAL) during this time. However, in the year 1997, an important overhaul programme was carried out by the firm's board. The programme involved change of name of the airline, its image, aircraft livery, and introduction of online ticketing services.
