Silk Air Logo SilkAir (MI), the solely owned subsidiary of Singapore Airline has its base in Singapore. The airline offers scheduled flight services from Singapore to about 31 destinations in Southeast Asia, Republic of China and South Asia. The airline's head office is located on the 5th storey of SIA Superhub. As regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir serves 31 short-haul destinations in Singapore Airlines Group network.

Silk Air Baggage Allowance

Weight allowance for checked in baggage for economy class is 20 kg and for Business Class it is 30 kg. Infants are allowed 10 kg of free checked in baggage along with one fully collapsible pushchair/stroller or infant car seat. The food for infants can be carried in a hand-luggage for consumption on board.

Silk Air Destination & Services

Some of the important destinations served by SilkAir are Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Shenzhen in China, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram in India, Kathmandu in Nepal, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam in Southeast Asia.

The classes found on the SilkAir flights are economy and business. The SilkAir flights presents Western and Orient menus as food choice. On some selected flights, local foods like Laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, Mee rebus and Mee siam aire are also served.

As a part of entertainment, passengers can choose from selecte magazines and story books on board. Silkwinds is a in-flight magazine, published once in two months is complimentary for all passengers.

Silk Air Fleet

Silk Air started its operations with two hired McDonnell Douglas MD-87 aircrafts in the year 1989.Currently the fleet of SilkAir consists of 18 aircrafts. it is one of the youngest fleets in Asia, with an average age of 5.8 years. SilkAir flights serve 31 destinations around the world. The fleet consists of 12 Airbus A320-200 and 6 Airbus A319-100 aircrafts.

SilkAir has won successive 'Best Regional Airline: Southeast Asia' in 2009 and 2010 by Skytrax at World Airlines Awards.
