Royal Nepal Airlines

Royal Nepal Airlines Logo Formerly known by the name Royal Nepal Airlines, Nepal Airlines (RA) is the state airline of Nepal. The main base of the airline is at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Since the mountainous terrain of Nepal could not be easily accessed by road or rail, the introduction of Nepal Airlines gave a kick to its tourism sector. Today, Nepal Airlines operates services to 39 destinations across the globe.

Royal Nepal Airlines Baggage Allowance

The weight allowance for the Economy Class passengers of Nepal Airlines is 30 kgs for all destinations except Hong Kong, for which it is 25 kgs. Business class passengers can enjoy the privilege of an extra 10 kgs of baggage allowance.

One piece of hand baggage is allowed for each passenger, except infants, and it can be conveniently placed in the closed rack or under the seat in front, free of charge. For security and safety regulations, it must not exceed 15 lbs and must not be larger than 50.8x38.1x25.4cm.

Royal Nepal Airlines Fleet

The fleet size of Nepal Airlines is 7, which consists of two Boeing 757-200 and five de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircrafts. With plans to expand its fleet, the airline has also placed an order for 2 Xian MA60 aircrafts.

History about Royal Nepal Airlines

The airline was formed in July 1958 as Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC). The first aircraft of the fleet was Douglas DC-3, which served domestic destinations like Biratnagar, Simara, Pokhara and a few Indian cities like Delhi, Calcutta and Patna. In the year 1972, Nepal Airlines got its first jet aircraft Boeing 727. The year 1970 marked the addition of Pilatus Porter and Twin Otter aircrafts to the fleet which alternatively made the remote and mountainous terrains of Nepal accessible.

In the year 2004, the Nepal Government decided to sell off 49 percent of its stake in Nepal Airlines to the private sector. This helped the airline to get out of significant debts.

The airline signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Airbus to get one A320-200 and one A330-200 at 2009 Dubai Airshow.
