Actually Carrasco International Airport is situated in the city of Ciudad de la Costa, approximately 15 km away from downtown Montevideo. Carrasco International Airport is the primary hub of Uruguay's national flag carrier PLUNA that offers flights for many cities in South America. Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft.
