Samui Airport or the Koh Samui Airport ( USM ) is a picturesque airport in Thailand privately owned by Bangkok Airways. The Koh Samui airport is located 2km north of the main village Chaweng. Barring a gift shop, the Koh Samui Airport has nothing really to offer. There are two terminals here � one domestic and one international. The international terminal offers a pretty picture with the Big Buddha Pier located right next to it. Along with it, enjoy great views of outlying islands, streaks of surf, small fishing crafts and the calm aquamarine sea. Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The word 'Lufthansa' was adopted in 1933.Lufthansa fought the World War II in 1939, but was suspended following the defeat of Germany in 1945. On 1st April, 1955, Lufthansa resumed scheduled service within Germany, while international operations started on 15 May 1955, with flights to destinations in Europe, followed by service to New York. South Atlantic routes were resumed in August 1956. Today, Lufthansa Airlines is Europe's largest airline and also the flag carrier of Germany. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for ""air""), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).
