Julius Nyerere International Airport is managed by Tanzania Airports Authority and it has two asphalt paved runways. One of the largest airports in Tanzania, Julius Nyerere International Airport handles over 1.2 million passengers per year. Julius Nyerere International Airport serves as a major hub for Precision Air, which offers flights to Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Nairobi, Musoma, Mombasa, Tabora, Mwanza, Zanzibar and Shinyanga. Air Uganda and Coastal Aviation are other major airlines that operate flight to and from Julius Nyerere International Airport.
Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The word 'Lufthansa' was adopted in 1933.Lufthansa fought the World War II in 1939, but was suspended following the defeat of Germany in 1945. Lufthansa, as a new entity was recreated on 6 January 1953 as Aktiengesellschaft f?r Luftverkehrsbedarf (Luftag) and was renamed Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft on August 6, 1954. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for ""air""), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).
