Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport ( PBM ) or commonly called Paramaribo-Zanderij International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Paramaribo. Operated by Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (JAPIA) Corporation, Paramaribo-Zanderij International Airport is the primary international gateway of Suriname. Zanderij International Airport is the main hub of Suriname's national carrier Surinam Airways that offers flights to Amsterdam, Aruba, Belem, Georgetown, Miami, Port of Spain and Curacao. KLM, Caribbean Airlines, Insel Air, Caribbean Commuter Airways and Meta Linhas Aereas are other airlines that operate flights to and from Paramaribo-Zanderij International Airport. Both Surinam Airways and KLM Airlines have three weekly direct flights from Amsterdam to Paramaribo-Zanderij International Airport.
Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The word 'Lufthansa' was adopted in 1933.Lufthansa fought the World War II in 1939, but was suspended following the defeat of Germany in 1945.
