Maputo International Airport ( MPM ) is an international airport situated in Maputo city of Mozambique. One of the biggest airports in Africa, Maputo International Airport is connected to several international destinations with direct flights. Operated by Aeroportos de Mocambique (Mozambique Airports Company), Maputo International Airport has two asphalt paved runways. Maputo International Airport is the main hub of Mozambique's flag carrier LAM Mozambique Airlines, which offers flights for Beira, Durban, Johannesburg, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Nampula, Chimoio, Quelimane, Pemba, Tete and Vilanculos. Air Zimbabwe, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, TAP Portugal, Transairways and Mocambique Expresso are other airlines that operate flights to and from Maputo International Airport.
Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The word 'Lufthansa' was adopted in 1933.Lufthansa fought the World War II in 1939, but was suspended following the defeat of Germany in 1945. Lufthansa, as a new entity was recreated on 6 January 1953 as Aktiengesellschaft f?r Luftverkehrsbedarf (Luftag) and was renamed Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft on August 6, 1954. South Atlantic routes were resumed in August 1956. Today, Lufthansa Airlines is Europe's largest airline and also the flag carrier of Germany. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for ""air""), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).
