Owned by Government of Guyana, Cheddi Jagan International Airport is situated at Linden, about 41 km south of Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana. Set on the right bank of Demerara River, Cheddi Jagan International Airport serves to Georgetown and neighbouring areas. Cheddi Jagan International Airport is the main hub of Trans Guyana Airways, the national carrier of Guyana. Along with Trans Guyana Airways, Cheddi Jagan International Airport is served by airlines like Travelspan, Blue Wing Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Roraima Airways, Skyservice Airlines and Xtra Airways.
Founded in 1926 in Berlin, following a merger between 'Deutsche Aero Lloyd' (DAL) and 'Junkers Luftverkehr', Lufthansa's original name was Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. The word 'Lufthansa' was adopted in 1933.Lufthansa fought the World War II in 1939, but was suspended following the defeat of Germany in 1945. Lufthansa, as a new entity was recreated on 6 January 1953 as Aktiengesellschaft f?r Luftverkehrsbedarf (Luftag) and was renamed Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft on August 6, 1954. On 1st April, 1955, Lufthansa resumed scheduled service within Germany, while international operations started on 15 May 1955, with flights to destinations in Europe, followed by service to New York. South Atlantic routes were resumed in August 1956. Today, Lufthansa Airlines is Europe's largest airline and also the flag carrier of Germany. The name of the company is derived from Luft (the German word for ""air""), and Hansa (after Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group).
