Lufthansa Airlines
Germany's proud flag carrier, Lufthansa is one of the largest airlines in Europe. Lufthansa has its main base at Frankfurt Airport, its second hub in the Munich Airport and the corporate headquarters at Cologne. Its name has been derived from 'luft' which means 'air' in German and 'hansa' from the Hanseatic League, the powerful medieval trading group! Lufthansa Airways is the fifth largets airline of the world and is a founding member of Star Alliance, world's largest airlines alliance. Star Alliance was formed in 1997 together with Thai Airways, United Airlines, Air Canada and Scandinavian Airlines System. Lufthansa has always maintained the highest level of service standards. Its logo, an encircled crane in flight, has caught the fancy of many ever since 1918 when it was created. It still remains a visible symbol of the airline, signifying its commitment to making your travel through the skies comfortable and smooth. Lufthansa caters to a range of passengers with its three cabin classes - First, Business and Economy. The former is only offered on some of its international air travel routes.
Lufthansa Airlines Baggage Allowance
Lufthansa Airlines baggage policy for check-in baggage varies depending on booking class, route and frequent flyer miles. Baggage rules restrict free baggage allowance to 40 kgs for First Class, 30 kgs for Business Class and 20 kgs for Economy Class. Cabin luggage restrictions too are different for different classes. As per Lufthansa Airlines Cabin Baggage policy, while First and Business Class passengers are allowed to carry 2 bags (not weighing more than 8 kgs each), Economy Class passengers are allowed to carry just one. Cabin luggage dimensions cannot exceed (55 x 40 x 20) cms, the exceptions being foldable garment bags, which can be of a maximum size of (57 x 54 x 15) cms.

Lufthansa connects 18 domestic destinations and over 183 international destinations across 78 countries. Along with its partners, it connects 410 destinations across Africa, North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Within the United State of America, Lufthansa flies to Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The airline’s destinations in India include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune.
In-flight entertainment, offered only on long haul flights, includes Audio-Video-On-Demand screens. In addition to world class on board services for its business class and first class passengers, Lufthansa offers access to its varied lounges at its prime terminals. Miles & More, the frequent flier program of Lufthansa is shared by numerous partner airlines, offering multiple benefits to passengers.
Lufthansa Airlines Fleet
With more than 500 flights under its wing, the Lufthansa Group boasts of being the third largest airline fleet in the world! Subsidiaries within the Lufthansa Group include Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Italia, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings, Germanwings, Augsburg Airways, Contact Air, SWISS, Lufthansa Regional and Lufthansa Cargo. In addition, Lufthansa has codeshare agreements with various airlines from around the world besides the Star Alliance members. The prominent carriers amongst these are Air India, Brussels Airlines, Air One, Ethiopian Airlines, Jet Airways, and Qatar Airways. Lufthansa was the first foreign launch customer for a Boeing commercial plane while in 1970, along with Swissair, it was the launch customer for the Airbus A310. Today, Lufthansa’s fleet comprises of A319-100 (28 nos), Airbus A320-200 (44), Airbus A321-100 (20), Airbus A321-200 (23),, Airbus A330-300 (15), Airbus A340-300 (26), Airbus A340-600 (24), Boeing 737-300 (33), Boring 737-500 (30), Boeing 747-400 (30) and Embraer E-190.
Lufthansa Airlines Awards & Recognition
Lufthansa Airlines as well as their respective hubs in Munich, Germany and Zurich were voted best across several categories from over 100 countries at the World Airline Awards by Skytrax in June 2010. Lufthansa also bagged the Best Airline in Europe award at the same event.
