Indigo Airlines History
IndiGo was established in early 2006 under the ownership of InterGlobe Enterprises (51.12%) and a US-based firm Caelum Investments (48%). In 2005, the firm had placed an order of 100 Airbus A320-200 aircraft with the aim to start IndiGo’s services in mid 2006. Post receiving the delivery of its first aircraft in July 2006, the airlines took off its inaugural flight from Delhi to Imphal in August. By early 2012, IndiGo had 50 aircrafts in its fleet; thus, it is known to be the fastest growing airline in India. The first international service of IndiGo was launched in September 2011 along the Delhi-Dubai route, post which the airline extended its flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Muscat and Kathmandu. In the same year, IndiGo ordered 150 aircrafts of the new Airbus 320neo family, the deliveries of which will commence in 2016. With its low cost model, IndiGo has become the largest airline in India in terms of market share.
