The national carrier of United Arab Emirates (UAE) and one of the prominent airlines of the world, Etihad Airways is a major flier of the Middle East, operating in the Indian sub continent, Europe, North America and Africa. Fleet
Eithad Airways boasts of an intensive fleet of 52 technologically advanced aircrafts. The fleet of Eithad Airways comprises 2 Airbus A319 - 100, 8 Airbus A320 - 200, 15 Airbus A330 - 200, 4 Airbus A340 - 500, 5 Airbus A340 - 600, 5 Boeing 777 - 300 ER, 2 Airbus A300 - 600RF, 1 Airbus A340 - 300 and 1 McDonnell Douglas-MD - 11F. in addition, Etihad Airways did a record-breaking order in July 2008 for up to 205 aircrafts at the Farnborough International Airshow, including firm orders for 100 aircraft. In addition, Etihad Airways have ordered for 469 engines at the Paris Air Show, including firm orders for 239 engines in May 2009. Etihad Airways is also one of the youngest and most environmentally-friendly aircraft fleets, with an average age of three years.
Baggage Allowance
The Etihad luggage restrictions are different for different classes. As per Etihad Airways baggage policy, bags worth 40 kgs are allowed for Diamond First Class, 30 kgs for Pearl Business Class and 23 kgs for Coral Economy Class. The size of the bags for all classes is restricted to 45 cms x 72 cms x 90 cms respectively. As per Etihad Airways cabin baggage policy, 2 bags not exceeding 12 kgs can be carried by both business and first class passengers. For economy-class passengers, this is restricted to 7 kgs. Anything exceeding the free baggage rules will be liable to a charge.
Awards & Recognition
Etihad Airways has gained itself the credit of the largest ever commercial aviation start-up aircraft order, announced in 2004, for 29 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. She has won more than 40 global awards for service and innovation including Best Business Class at the 2009 Skytrax Awards. Besides this, Etihad Airways sponsored the Ferrari Formula 1 Team, Manchester City and Chelsea Football Clubs, Harlequins Rugby Football Club, the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Etihad Airways History
The Etihad Airways was started in July 2003 by a royal order issued by Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Etihad Airways started its operation on 5th November, 2003 with an inaugural flight to Al Ain and on 12th November, 2003, Etihad Airways began commercial operations with its flight services to Beirut. Etihad Airways flew its first direct flight from the UAE to Geneva in June 2004 and began direct flights to Brussels and Toronto in October 2005. In the year 2008, Etihad Airways carried more than 6 million passengers worldwide. Recently, Etihad Airways Terminal 3 opened at the Abu Dhabi Airport, which will be dedicated to Etihad flights and is estimated to cater to 5 million guests per year!
