Emirates Airline better known as Emirates is a subsidiary of Dubai based company Emirates Group. Dubai based Emirates is the ninth largest airline in the world in terms of international passenger carried and tenth largest in terms of the scheduled international freight tons-kilometers flown with being one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. Emirates has received more than 300 international awards for excellence since its launch in 1985. Fleet
With a fleet of 137 aircraft, Emirates currently fly to over 100 destinations in 60 countries around the world, and our network is expanding constantly. Nearly 700 Emirates flights depart Dubai each week on their way to destinations on six continents. Its flight includes competitive aircrafts, including The Emirates A380, Airbus A340-500, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A340-300, Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 777-300 and Boeing 777-300ER.
Baggage Allowance
With one of the most lenient baggage rules, Emirates Airlines baggage policy allows guests to check-in 30 kgs in Economy Class, 40 kgs in Business Class and 50 kgs in First Class (except USA Canada and Brazil). Any amount of extra baggage will be liable to a charge. However, guests who buy extra baggage allowance online will get a discount of 15%. Emirates Airlines Cabin Baggage policies have recently been amended. While Business Class and First Class passengers will be able to carry 2 bags with the total weight not exceeding 12 kgs, the economy class passengers are allowed to carry along 7 kgs, the luggage dimensions being restricted to (22 x 15 x 8) inches.
Awards & Recognition
Emirates won the Pax International Magazine Readership Awards for the Outstanding Food Service by a Carrier Middle East 2009 and OAG Airline Industry Awards named it the Best Airline Based in the Middle East/Indian Sub-Continent. Emirates Airline was named the ninth best Airline of the Year in 2007 by Skytrax. Skytrax also named Emirates the Airline of the Year in both 2001 and in 2002.
Emirates Airlines History
Emirates Airline was established by the Dubai government on 25th May, 1985. The airline began operations with flights to Karachi and Mumbai. In September, 1985, Emirates started its flight for Delhi. Initially, Emirates leased two aircraft, namely Airbus A300 and Boeing 737-700 from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Further, two Boeing 727 - 200 advanced aircraft were taken on lease from the UAE's Royal Flight. In July 1987, Emirates extended its services to Europe, with first flight to London Gatwick. In June 1990, Emirates Airline commenced its operations to Singapore. On 28 July 2008, Emirates received its first Airbus A380 aircraft and became the world's second airline to fly the Airbus A380 after Singapore Airlines.
