Berlin Metropolitan Area Airport
Berlin, Germany's capital city, currently has two international airports serving it, namely, the Berlin-Tegel International Airport (TXL), and the Berlin-Schnefeld International Airport (SXF). Until 2008, it had three airports serving it, which included the Berlin Tempelhof Airport (THF), now closed. The Berlin-Tegel International Airport (also known as Otto Lilienthal Airport) is the main airport of Berlin, and served about 14.5 million passengers in 2008. The new Berlin-Brandenburg International (tentative name) is currently being developed on the site of the Berlin-Schnefeld International Airport, and is scheduled for completion in 2011. It is envisioned to replace all three airports, and be one of the most modern airports in the world.
