Alaska Air Group, Inc., is the holding company for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, Seattle-based carriers that collectively serve 92 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Alaska Airlines is known for its excellent customer service. Alaska Air Group was organized as a Delaware corporation in 1985. Horizon Air is Alaska Airlines' sister carrier and are both subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group. Alaska also holds a substantial codeshare of both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Alaska Airlines has a fleet of 116 Boeing aircraft, with an average age of 7.5 years. The airline took delivery of 10 737-800s in 2009. The airline also has firm commitments for 15 aircraft and options for 40 in 2010 and beyond.
Alaska Airlines baggage policy allows checked baggage weighing 23 kgs (per bag) with luggage dimensions being a maximum of 62 linear inches (lengths + breadth + height). An extra charge will be levied on baggage in excess of these dimensions and the weight. This charge will vary according to classes, frequent flyer program, point of origin of flight and categories of passengers such as Millitary personnel etc. As per Alaska Airlines cabin baggage rules are concerned, one hand bag with luggage dimensions of 25 cm x 43 cm x 61 cm are allowed. In case of lack of space, your cabin baggage will be checked in without any extra charge.

Alaska Airlines was awared by the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) for introducing in-flight entertainment in October 2003. The airlines provided the first portable, hard-drive based, audio-video-on-demand (AVOD) players that deliver a variety of film, TV, and audio programs. Named the digEplayer, the historic device was conceived and intoduced in the market by Bill Boyer Jr, an Alaska Airlines baggage handler. Alaska Airlines also received the 'Airline IFE Service of the Year' award in March 2004 for digEplayer. digEplayer was also awarded 'IFE Product of the Year'.

Alaska Airlines, Inc., an Alaska corporation was founded in 1932. Till about 1942, the airline was known as 'Alaska Star Airlines'. It got its current name - Alaska Airlines - in the year 1944. In 1985, Alaska Air Group was formed as a holding company for Alaska Airlines. Alaska Air Group acquired Horizon Air in 1986 and in the year 1987, Jet America Airlines was merged into Alaska Airlines.
