Ujjain Overview
One of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela and counted amongst the most revered pilgrimage centres of the country, Ujjain has more to offer than religion and commerce. Its legendary past, visible in its palaces and temples, stands testimony to the city’s historical significance. Temples galore! Ujjain should have been named ‘The City of Temples’ considering there is one temple for every 1000 people in the city. The most revered site is of course the Mahakaleshwar Temple, which is a must see, followed by the temple of Kal Bhairava and Bade Ganeshji ka Mandir. Ujjain also boasts of the ancient Bharatrihari Caves and the Vedha Shala observatory.
