Ranthambhore Overview
An inimitable combination of nature and history encircles this amazing tract that lies 15 km from the small but well-known town of Sawai Madhopur. Located amongst the mountain ranges of Vindhyas and Aravalis, surrounded by a parched desert land, Ranthambhore is a phenomenon of sorts.Here, each season brings a new color to the forest. This is probably the only place in Rajasthan which presents such a contrast as that of the vibrant and luscious green during monsoons as compared to the scorched and shriveling face of the landscape during summers.The National Park covers 392 sq.km. of the total 1334 sq.km. area of Ranthambhore. Two rivers, Chambal and Banas are the lifeline of this place and during the dry summers, pools formed on the river beds serve as the best place for animal sightings. Besides the wide range of animals and birds in the area, a drive through the park is an absolute delight due to the numerous lakes and ruins of yesteryear monuments that dot the region.
