Poovar Island Resort Reviews, Kovalam And Poovar

I spent just one night at Poovar Island Resort, but I enjoyed it a lot. It is very peaceful, the staff is friendly, the food good, but not excellent. Unfortunatelly it rained a lot during my stay so that I couldn't really enjoy the beach (the hotel boat service has to bring you there across the river).

We spent one night at Poovar Island Resort and regretted that our booking was only for a night. The resort is well maintained, the staff very helpful and polite. The hotel was at 80% plus occupancy at the time yet it seemed that we were the only people staying there. Open spaces, plenty of areas to sit undisturbed and good facilities. We plan to go back for a family trip.

I had stayed at the Floating Cottage for 2 nights. Room Service was awful. It took atleast 1 hour for them to attend to any request. Housekeeping was disgusting. Electric switches and the A.C. kept on triping every 2-3 hours. Food options for vegetarian guests were limited. No complimentary water bottles provided. The bathroom fittings not maintained properly.

Very good location and hotel service. Only complaint is no children's park for children to play, though ample of open area to run around. Overall very good.

We had been there on our honeymoon and stayed in the floating cottages. This place is heaven on earth, the view from the room was breathtaking, the service impeccable, food was delicious and the surroundings of the hotel were so beautiful. we couldn't have asked for anything more.

No free internet. Very friendly staff. One cottage was upgraded to ""Superior"" cottage for free, so the two booked cottages could be close together. Backwater trip to and from the resort is included. Beach not suitable for small children (steep with strong waves).

Poovar Island Resort has been a bittersweet experience. The resort itself probably started off with some good ideas in mind but it seems as though it was unable to realize its full potential. The location of the hotel is a boon and a bane. The estuary is the main and probably the only attraction of the resort and that too has not been kept tourist friendly. Apart from that, there is really not much to do around the resort and I do wish the hotel would take some initiative and organize activities for the guests. The restaurant on the other hand is a delight and the buffet spreads are more than satisfying. Room service is brisk and courteous. The Ayurveda and spa may also be considered for brownie points. All said, it was an interesting experience but probably one I wouldn't take again for a while.

The hotel next door was listed as 3 star but actually had many more facilities and looked much nicer.
