About Munnar history, the word of mouth narration informs us that this place was inhabited since pre historic days, dating back to stone age civilization, whereas recorded history which is available from 10th century tells us that one Kannan Thevar, who was the headman of the villages of Anchanad had cultivated lands here during 19th century, which were belonging to Rajah of Poojar, and later the first tea sapling in this sprawling tea estate plantations was planted by one A.H.Sharp at Parvathi part of Sevanmullay estate of about 50 acres of land, thereafter one J D Munro leased 600 sq mtrs of Land at Munnar, which was practically a jungle, and converted it to a beautiful Tea Plantation area to be called Kannan Devan Concession Land, named after Kannan Thevar, which went to corporate tea marketing organisations one after the other afterwards.
