About Mangalore history this region was under the rulership of different dynasties including Kadamba, Vijayanagaram, Chalukya, Rashtrakuta, Hoysala and even Portuguese, the name of Mangalore found in 1652 Sanson Mamp of India, while an earliest reference is made in 715 CE by Pandian King Chettian, who had mentioned about Mangalapuram, 14th century traveler Ibn Battula referring it as Manjurar, when British occupied this place, the name Mangaluru was anglicised to Mangalore, while as per epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, this place was ruled by Lord Rama and Sahadeva of Pandavas, Greek and Roman historians having made reference about this place connecting it to the river Netravati, it had been under Mouryan regime in the third century BCE, after various dynasties ruling Mangalore, Hyder Ali conquered this place in 1763 holding it with him until 1767, baton going to East India Company from this time to 1783, for retaining it British had to fight two wars with Tipu Sultan, in the 19th Century British bringing in cotton weaving and tile manufacturing units to this place, Mangalore ultimately came into the coverage of Karnataka State after Independence of India.
