Kolkata Overview
If you talk about Kolkata history, it was the earlier Capital of the Country when Britishraj was established in India, before Delhi replaced it at a point of time, while it was a very small village during 17th century, British making attempts to fortify their factories at Sutanuti in the Banks of Hoogly river, repeatedly fighting and entering truce with the then Sultans of Mughal kingdom, finally built a fort in 1701 calling it Fort William, which faced the attack of Siraj Ud Daulah in 1756 and a new Fort William was again constructed, Calcutta beginning to grow to a city of wealth and a City of Joy, the records of 15th Century during emperor Akbar’s time calling it Kolikata, and according to Calcutta High court’s observation its genesis goes back to Mourya and Gupta periods in History.
