The Aga Khan Palace, a national monument was built in 1892 by Imam Sultan Muhammad Shah Agakhan III, President of the League of Nations in 1938. The palace was donated to India by Aga Khan IV in 1969 as a mark of respect to Gandhiji and his philosophy.
In the 18th century, Nanasaheb Peshwa built a garden lake in the Parvati Hills. Much later in 1784, Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa built a temple in honour of Shri Siddhivinayak Gajanan here. This holy shrine is a sacred ground of faith for millions today.
The FTII is located on 21 acres of the erstwhile Prabhat Studios. FTII was set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 1960 on the counsel of the Film Enquiry Committee to teach the art and techniques of film making.

The main railway station is at Shivaji Nagar, which is a commercial hub lined with hotels, restaurants, business centers and easy commutation. This station is mediocre in size and there are regular bus and auto services plying from the station.
