Delhi Overview
Delhi, India’s capital and a culturally rich city is a bustling centre that is exceptional and inviting. Compromising of seven cities that were built by different emperors one can see the evolution of architectural styles. Right across from the Red Fort is the beautiful Jama Masjid built by Shahjahan. Other sites worth visiting are Jantar Mantar an astronomical observatory, India Gate, Lotus Temple, Raj Bhavan, Akshardham Temple and the Parliament House.
Delhi boasts of numerous eating joints, although its synonymous with its Mughlai cuisine it also offers various international cuisines. From its rich and succulent local fare in grand restaurants to its roadside joints it’s definitely a place filled with irresistible flavors and aromas. For scrumptious local cuisine do visit some its famous streets and by-lanes.
A thriving commercial centre, Delhi offers wealth of traditional and contemporary crafts as well as numerous international designer stores and grand shopping malls. Head out to Chandini Chowk and Connaught Place for great bargains. For exquisite fabrics visit Kinari Bazaar or Khari Baoli for an excellent selection of spices and Chatta Chowk, home to some of the city’s most skilled craftsmen. The Karol Bagh market is worth visiting or Dilli Haat that has a wide range of crafts on display.
This cultural capital hosts many special historical events as well as numerous festivals. Delhi can be visited throughout the year and traveling to Delhi by air is easy and convenient. It’s well connected to major cities by a network of highways and train services to Delhi are available from all the major cities.
