Chambal Safari Lodge, Chambal

The Chambal Safari Lodge Mela Kothi an oasis of calm and tranquillity, nestling in the midst of a 35 acre plantation of large trees. The lodge aims at creating an eco-friendly, self sustaining unit that showcases the unique biodiversity, habitats and cultural integrity of the Chambal Valley.

The Chambal Safari Lodge is located at Jarar, 65 km from Agra , and 16 km from the Chambal Safari Base Camp on the river Chambal.

Hotel Facilities
The lodge organises activities such as bird watching, river safari, base camp, camel safari, jeep safari and village safari. The lodge is also a major point of excursions to bird sanctuaries, temples and forts.

Room Amenities
Eight independent cottages with small covered verandahs have been built on raised red sandstone platforms in the woodland around the old Mela Kothi. Great care has been taken to use locally available materials and craftsmen as far as possible, to create environmentally sound yet aesthetically pleasing interiors and surroundings. In keeping with their eco-friendly approach the lodge does not use electricity generators and has limited electric connections.

The twin/double bed rooms are spacious and airy, and can easily accommodate an extra bed. Two large windows on opposite ends allow fresh air and natural light into the rooms whilst the sloping tile roof with rough wood beams adds warmth and charm. The furniture and furnishings are procured locally as far as possible. All the cottages have en suite bathrooms with washbasins and running water for hamam style baths. There are geysers installed in all the bathrooms but they are dependent on the erratic electric supply. You may leave the geysers on at night to avail hot water in the morning. Alternatively, in case of a power-cut, the hotel supply a bucket of hot water on request in the morning and in the evening.

Dining
The Lodge kitchens serve authentic home cooked meals with fresh organically grown ingredients. Most of the produce is from their own farms or procured directly from the local farmers.
