Barailley Overview
‘Jhumka gira re, Bareilley ke bazaar mein’ – well, Bareilley bears no significance to ‘jhumkas’, but, on the contrary, is a throbbing industrial area, being the centre of furniture, cotton, grain and sugar manufacturing units. Also rich in its heritage, Bareilley is famous for the Dargah of Ahle Sunnat scholar, Imam Ahmed Reza Khan (1856-1921 A.D). It also has four ‘Naths’ (Shiva) temples at its four corners, Alakhnath, Tiberinath, Madhinath, and Dhopeshwarnath. If you happen to be in Bareilley at the threshold of autumn or spring, don’t be surprised to see multicoloured flying objects in the sky. It is how the people here welcome a new season. You will find kites of all shapes and sizes and colours and patterns. Make sure to pick up a few souvenirs before you head back home. ‘Surma’ or eye liner, Zari-Zardosi handicraft and cane and bamboo furniture are some of the things you cannot do without while in Bareilley.
