  • Sun Village Resort-Boutique Resort Hotel Description

At first glance, one can easily mistake it for a housing colony. But the colossal building structure is the 12 year old Sun Village resort located in Arpora, off Baga beach in north Goa. This hotel has a typical tropical housing look to it, with its tall buildings and multi ferrous floors. On the ground floor, on the way to the reception, lies a string of souvenir shops, tailor and drapery shop, photo studio, woodcraft and leather shops and even a boutique lined up.

The hotel is set on a step like pattern with a new facility on each level. On the porch stands the statue of the proud sun god. Moving inwards towards the reception, we see him perched on his chariot on the wall. The reception is a simple cosy place with comfortable sofas placed in the centre with the gallery of the second sitting area on the first floor looming right above it. The Travel Desk is just next to the reception counter. The sitting area above is huge compared to the one on the ground floor and more airy and spacious. One end of the sitting area here is adorned with a waterfall with a flight of stairs going to the rooms. Also, here is an artificial pond with colourful fish that is quite a sight!

    Rooms
Sun Village primarily has 135 rooms divided between Standard, Superior rooms and Suites. The Standard room is a drawing cum bedroom apartment with a sofa, coffee table, luggage rack, drinks counter, fridge and television set in the drawing room and a bed, dressing table, large mirror and a spacious wardrobe in the bedroom. There is an attached balcony as well that overlooks the beautiful property. The Superior rooms are luxurious with a distinctive blend of antique furnishing and trendy colours to decorate the room. This is made more special with additional facilities like tea and coffee maker, bathrobes, fruit basket and wine, besides the television, fridge, telephone and sofas. It should however be noted here that only the first lot of these goodies are complimentary, the rest are chargeable.

The bathrooms have superior fittings and an extensive assortment of toiletries like soap, shampoo, conditioner, body gel, shaving kit, sewing kit, toothbrushes, comb, dental kit, loofah and talcum powder along with a hair dryer. The corridors are beautifully ornate with 'jharokhas' and fresh plants. The Suites are a lavish affair with a separate living and bedroom. The facilities offered are an upgraded version of those in the Standard and Superior rooms.

    Facilities
Towing away from the rooms is not easy, however the resort has so much more to offer. Outdoors, the pool is inviting especially under the warm sun. The lounge chairs surrounding the pool serve as an ideal place to read a book or sip a drink from the Sun Downer pool bar situated right next to it. Across a small lawn on one of the levels is Ayurgreen, the Kerala massage and treatment centre. This lawn is also used to host barbeque and tandoori parties under the starlit sky. Adjoining it is another pool, smaller in size for the guests to bask around after a long rejuvenating massage.

Going downhill, is the Reiki and Yoga centre and also the gymnasium and unisex salon. So many facilities, such a large hotel, if your intention to visit Goa is only to relax, then Sun Village is the place to be.
