  • Falcon Resorts Hotel Description

    Location
The resort is located in North Goa, in Calangute. The Calangute beach is a 10-minute walk from the Falcon Resorts. The airport is 47 km away; the nearest railway station is at Thivim, about 18 km away, while the nearest bus stand is at Mapusa, 10 km away. For a landmark, ask for St. Anthony's Church when asking for directions.

'Funky' is the first word that comes to one's mind on entering the 15-year-old Falcon Resorts. Painted all yellow and blue on the outside, the interiors burst with walls painted in mismatched colours, antique lamps and murals. Old doors are hung up on walls for decoration, palm fronds wave lazily in the Goan breeze, while a wooden Falcon (what else!) set to take flight is suspended at the reception.

The resort winds around a guitar shaped swimming pool, which is lined by swaying, tall coconut trees that complement the tawny shade. A basket hangs over the edge of water, Elvis Presley plays on the radio, it's all very laidback.

The resort is well equipped for a comfortable stay too, run by a friendly Goan couple for whom hospitality is not business but a way of life. Tony and Savia are generous and treat you like a personal guest.

    Rooms
This 15-year-old resort has 14 Conventional rooms, 7 Deluxe Suites, a Honeymoon Suite and varied budget accommodation quarters. The amenities that are common to all rooms include air conditioning, mini bar, cable television, mineral water for drinking, intercom and a balcony sit-out. The rooms are crazy, each wall painted a different primary colour. All the rooms are very spacious and most are adorned with antique furniture. The washrooms are clean and amenities here include a geyser, soap, shampoo and towels.

The Conventional room has a beautiful four poster bed set off with a pretty blue eiderdown. A cushy couch rests in a corner, as does a study table. The attached balcony is spacious, overlooking the swimming pool. The washrooms are spic and span, with hot and cold water. The Superior rooms are similar, only with a grand king size bed.

Since the hotel is so unpredictable, the design of rooms of the same category varies too. For instance, one of the Conventional rooms comes with a loft which can accommodate 4 more people. Two double beds rest here with a table fan and the ceiling slopes down, painted a vibrant blue. This room is ideal for families, however a not of caution - the staircase to the loft is quite steep, so those with a fear of heights need to watch out.

The Honeymoon suite stands out with its Jacobean four-poster bed complemented with dainty peach and blue eiderdown. The Honeymoon Suite has a 32' television and rest of the amenities are the same.

The Deluxe suites are ideal for 4 - 6 people, with a living room, pantry and balconies that face the verdant pool area. As you enter, the living room has a sofa cum bed, a small dining table and small kitchenette in a corner. The kitchenette is not equipped but has a kitchen counter, washing sink and a refrigerator. The bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe and an attached washroom with a bathtub.

The resort also has a wide range of budget accommodation, ideal for large groups looking for an economical place to stay. Two dormitories are created in the attic - one can accommodate 8 people and the other 10, and they are reached by climbing a flight of wooden stairs up the bar. Both dormitories are air conditioned and the slightly cramped look is made up for by the immensely colourful, cheerful interiors. Arty paintings hang on the walls and there is a large screen television as well as two sinks in each dormitory.

The dormitory that can accommodate 8 people has 3 double beds and 1 sofa cum bed. The washroom here has a bath tub and a large mirror, as well as all other washroom amenities.

Please note that all the guests enjoy 24-hour room service.

    Dining and Hotel Facilities
The resort's restaurant is called O Caminhiao, named after a vintage Portuguese bus, 'Carreira'. The restaurant serves delectable multi cuisine fare, including the usual Chinese, Indian and Continental, but the Goan delicacies here are lip smacking.

The bar is innovative with wooden logs used as bar stools and chairs. The decor is all rough-cut wood creating a warm and inviting ambience. You can also choose to eat al fresco, or shake a leg at the resort's discotheque.

All local calls that you make from the Falcon Resorts are free. They provide Internet in the office as well as secretarial services such as fax and copier. There is a business centre as well. Games such as water polo (in the swimming pool), billiards and table tennis are on offer. The swimming pool has an extension for kids. Other facilities include sightseeing tours, taxi service (on request), bike and car hire, pick and drop facility from airport and/or railway station (at an extra cost), iron/ironing board (on request), 24-hour World Space music at the reception, doctor on call, currency exchange, safety deposit lockers, power backup, laundry service, travel desk, guide service (on request), parking facility and accommodation for drivers.

    Don't Miss!
The name of the restaurant O' Caminhao comes from an old bus that stands in the resort complex. In Portuguese, Caminhiao means a bus, and the one at Falcon is called Carreira. Old and vintage, it's a throwback to Goa's Portuguese past and very quaint.
