The House Of MG Hotel Description

The House of Mangaldas Girdhardas (MG) is a stately 20th century mansion converted into a boutique hotel. This property has existed ever since 1924 and is in perfect condition and is a hot favourite amongst foreigners and tourists to the city.

Lobby
The hotel lobby is a fun and alive area very rich and vibrant in colour. There are big floral paintings on the walls and a mirror with lights on it like in film stars dressing rooms. The chairs and sofas are comfortable and are in a riot of colours. A magazine and newspaper rack is present with daily news and fun stories. The reception is in a separate open area with cross ventilation. The staff at the hotel is dressed in starched white kurta, dhotis and caps or kurta, pajamas and caps.

Rooms
This being a heritage property caters more in quality than in quantity. The hotel has a total of 12 rooms which offer the best of antique furniture and a royal old charm way of life. The rooms available at the hotel are divided into The Mangaldas Suite, The Kanchangauri Suite, Grand Deluxe Room, Deluxe Room, Verandah Suites and Terrace Room. The Mangaldas Suite used to be the bedroom of Sheth Mangaldas. It is a grand space with a King size, four-poster Double bed and a large bathroom with dressing area. It overlooks the North and West side of the building and is accessible via two flights of stairs. The sitting area comprises of a swing and chairs with a coffee table. The only Apartment Suite in Ahmedabad, The Kanchangauri Suite is ideal for long stays. Located on the first floor and overlooking the Green House on one side and a verandah with a Shreenathji Idol on the other, this comfortably appointed suite has a bedroom and a sitting room areas as well as a full service kitchenette (with microwave, stove and full size refrigerator). Aside from all the modern conveniences, it also has a dining table and a queen-size four poster bed. This Grand Deluxe room on the first floor used to be the delivery room of the house, where the women of the family were confined during their pregnancy and delivery. It is a large bright sunny room with huge windows on three sides, one of them overlooking the fountain courtyard. It has twin beds, a dressing area and a huge bathroom. The cozy Deluxe room on the second floor is accessible via two flights of stairs. It used to be the ante- room to the Master Bedroom of Sheth Mangaldas. It has twin four poster beds. The Verandah Suite on the on the first floor has a bedroom with King-size double- bed, attached bathroom, and an adjacent enclosed verandah with a swing. The bay windows lead to a balcony that overlooks, through the Asopalav trees in the foreground, the World Famous Sidi Saiyed Mosque across the road. The charming Terrace Suite tucked away on the second floor can be accessed via two flights of stairs. It has a wooden ceiling and a King-size double bed. It also has a large attached terrace for private use. In addition, it has a large bathroom with separate dressing area. This room was originally a large terrace. Each room has a charm and past of its own. Once you dwell into the stories you will live out your vacation with a royal charm of yesteryears coupled with a modern dash of spice.

Services & Facilities
A Comprehensive list of facilities are available within the rooms. These services include Wi Fi internet connectivity, large attached bathrooms with high pressure showers, powerful split air conditioning and fans, 29 colour television with multiple channels, refrigerator with a mini bar, DVD/VCD/MP3 player and a World Space radio, DVD/VCD movie library, book library, option of a queen size twin bed or double bed with an 8 thick mattress, goose down pillows and an extra soft duvet, electric hot water kettle with complimentary tea and coffee, huge upholstered sofas and swings In most rooms, spacious work table with a multi plug surge protector for easy plug and play, wardrobe with electronic safe and speaker phones.

Dining
The dining facilities at the hotel are varied and will definitely satisfy your hunger pangs. Right from authentic Gujarati food to exotic multi cuisine dishes your choice will be on the menu. On entering the hotel property, you step into The Greenhouse which offers Indian and Continental snacks. It is open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm and has a separate indoor and outdoor section. The indoor section which is air conditioned levies a 15% surcharge. The outdoor space has relaxed wooden tables and benches and the indoor area has smart wooden tables and cane chairs.

There is also The Lotus Pool area which consists of a quaint pool beside a poolside restaurant with a health club in the same premises. This is open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm and consists of three areas, them being The Outdoor Courtyard, the air conditioned restaurant and the non air conditioned restaurant. The pool area is a fun place with high ceilings and old charm fans. The ceiling is decorated with paintings of Lotus Flowers and leaves. At one end of the pool a frosted glass wall stands tall and adds to the charm of this area. The Outdoor Courtyard is shaded by trees creating a canopy overhead and is a comfortable cool place to laze around in during the daytime. A music system offers sounds of instruments soaring into the skies while the guests enjoy these amenities at their leisure. A massage room with a single massage chair is another relaxing and quiet space. All these services are complimentary for in house guests while outsiders can avail them at a charge.

Finally, there is the very famous authentic Gujarati Restaurant called Agashiye. Fine Gujarati dining is offered on the terrace while you enjoy the breeze blowing through your hair and the sun shining on your backs. Agashiye is open for lunch (12:00 noon to 3:00 pm) and dinner (7:00 pm to 11:00 pm). The restaurant is tastefully decorated with low rise and very ethnic furniture with coloured deewans and bolsters sitting at either end of each deewan. At the centre of the large square dining tables sit large earthen ware containers also called Urlis. Flower petals float in these containers and add a touch of freshness to the restaurant. Puppets hang from the high ceilings and make this a very special place to dine in. The entire hotel is pure vegetarian and does not serve alcohol.

The hotel offer an area called the HBM Lounge and Courtyard. This large space is divided into various partitions. A conference hall and banquet room is present which can accommodate 60 80 people. An outdoor courtyard with broken tiles used as flooring is an ideal space for parties and get togethers. There are swings present here and the walls are adorned with old photographs of Mahatma Gandhi along with other revolutionaries.

Location
The House of MG is conveniently located in the City Center, a mere fifteen-minute drive from any corner of the city of Ahmedabad. Sidi Saiyed Mosque is located right opposite the hotel. The Sabarmati River and Ashram are just 4 kilometres away. The railway station and bus stand are 2 kilometres away while the airport is a mere 10 kilometres away.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is 10 kilometres north of Ahmedabad city and has both domestic and international flights. Connected with all major cities, it offers snack bars, shopping and facilities for the physically challenged.

Railway Station (2 Km)

One of the six operating divisions of the Western Railway, Ahmedabad is connected to all the major cities of India. The Ahmedabad Railway Station and Maninagar Railway Station are the main terminals for the city.

CG Road (3 Km)

One of the main roads in Ahmedabad, CG Road was remade in the 90’s after which the road turned into a major financial hub. Today, it houses many major malls, restaurants and shopping centres.

Indian Institute of Management (4 Km)

The second IIM to be established in India in 1961, this educational institution is rated the most prestigious management school in the country.

Sabarmati Ashram (3 Km)

Popular with tourists, this was once the house of Mahatma Gandhi founded by him in 1915. It lies on a tranquil stretch of the Sabarmati River and now houses a handicrafts centre, a handmade paper factory and a spinning wheel factory.

Kankaria Lake (3 Km)

A perfect place to see the sunset, this polygon lake offers pleasant walks, a recreational place and an island garden. Attracting good birdlife, a huge zoo, aquarium and children’s park stands by the lake. It was created in 1451 by Sultan Qutubuddin.

Khanpur (1 Km)

A residential area on the outskirts of the city, the neighbourhood of Khanpur also houses commercial outlets.

Teen Darwaza (0.5 Km)

It was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah and serves as the royal entrance to the royal square. Literally meaning ‘Triple Gateway’, Teen Darwaza is a trio of imposing arches and highly ornate buttresses of perfect proportions spanning the road.

Akshardham Temple (25 Km)

The Akshardham Temple is located in Gandhinagar, 20 kilometres from Ahmedabad. With a blend of traditional sandstone carving and state of the art technologies like fibre optics and sound & light shows, it is one of the finest modern temples in India.

Navrangpura is an area with various tourist attractions including the Gujarat Tribal Museum, Usmanpura Garden and Saiyad Usman Mosque. The High Court and Income Tax Office are also housed here.
