Agartala Overview
Agartala is the capital of Tripura, and is a culturally diverse city with a pleasant climate all year round. Located just 2 km from Bangladesh on the banks of the Haori River, it is famous for its many temples and palaces, as well as the architecture of its many old buildings. Agartala is famous for its twin modern palaces, Ujjayanta and Kunjaban, both built in the Ido-Saracenic style, and must visits. The Ujjayanta Palace now houses the states legislative assembly. Other must visits are the beautiful temples of Umamaheshwar, Laxminarayan and Jagganath; as well as the summer palace Neermahal, located in the middle of lake Rudrasagar, the only lake palace in Eastern India. Also visit nearby places such as Debtamura, Unakoti, and Pilak, where you can find rock carvings.
