The commercial capital of the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka, Colombo is an exceptional blend of an old city that is rich in culture and history, and a modern skyscraper sprouting metropolis. Its historical beauty can be seen in the many Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples scattered across the city, as well as the comparatively recent colonial edifices, such as the 140-year old Lighthouse Clock Tower located at the city centre. Other places to visit include the old and the new Parliament, the lush green residential areas, and the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. Stay overnight at the hotel. Shopping is abundant here, and you should visit such places as Majestic City shopping complex, House of Fashion, Noritake Ceramic showroom and Pettah bazaar. There is also the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, located near town, where you can see the majestic Sri Lankan elephant in its natural habitat. Also recommended is a drive along Galle Road, with the sea by your side.
