ITINERARY

DAY 1: ATHENS

Upon arrival in Athens airport, you will be met and assisted by the local representative for your private transfer to the hotel. Enjoy a night tour of Athens with dinner and folk show. Start the tour with a visit to the main Greek port of Piraeus, crossing the most important points of the city (City Hall, the picturesque Yacht's Harbour of Microlimano etc). Following the principal avenues and passing through the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the National Garden, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Catholic Cathedral, Academy, University, National Library and the Old Parliament, arrive at Plaka. Enjoy short pleasant walks through the unique Athens city to reach one of the popular taverns for dinner with live bouzouki music and Greek folk dances. Stay overnight at the hotel. (N.B. Drinks at the tavern are not included in the price.)

DAY 2: ATHENS

Today proceed on a half day sightseeing tour of Athens. After visiting the Temple Of Olympian Zeus, proceed to Panathinaiko Stadium, where the first Olympic Games took place in 1896 (short stop). Pass by the Prime Minister's residence, Ex Royal Palace, (guarded by colourful Evzones) Zappion (Conference and Exhibition Hall), National Garden, Hadrian's Arc, St. Paul's Church, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Schlieman's House (Numismatic Museum), Catholic Cathedral, Academy, University, National Library, Old Parliament, Constitution Square, Russian Orthodox Church and Acropolis, (visit Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Parthenon, Erechtheion). Return to the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 3: ATHENS

Today enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Argolis (Epidavros - Mycenae). From base terminal, go on to see the Olympic Stadium, the Athens 2004 Olympics main venue. Continue the tour and stop at the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive to Mycenae and visit the archaeological site and the tomb of Agamemnon (optional stop for souvenirs). After lunch, proceed to Nauplia, the first capital of modern Greece, via Argos. Do visit the Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi here. Continue the tour to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre, famous all over the world for its outstanding acoustics. Finally, drive along the coastal road of Saronic Gulf to Athens. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 4: ATHENS

Enjoy a full day's sightseeing tour to Delphi (also known as the Navel of the World) that takes place every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. From the base terminal, go on to see the Olympic Stadium, the main venue of the Athens 2004 Olympics. Continue through Thebes, Levadia (short stop) and Arachova for Delphi. Crossing the Castalia Spring, marvel at the archaeological site of Temple Of Apollo famous for its oracle and the Museum of Delphi, famous for its spectacular finds, including the bronze Charioteer, the Naxian Sphinx and the Statue of Antinoos. After lunch, return to Athens via the picturesque mountain village of Arachova, built on the south slopes of Parnassus, which is well known for its attractive hand-woven carpets, rugs and quilts, as well as for its wine and cheese (short stop). Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 5: ATHENS

Enjoy a full day's sightseeing cruise to the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra conducted daily. Depart by bus to Piraeus Port and sail for Aegina Island (optional visit to Aphaia, the famous temple of Athena). Cruise through the straits to Poros. Enjoy lunch on board and then proceed to Hydra (time at leisure for shopping or swimming). Sail back to the Trocadero Harbour and take a transfer by bus to Athens. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 6: ATENS

After breakfast at the hotel, spend the day at leisure. Later in the evening, enjoy a candlelight dinner at a very romantic restaurant in Athens. Stay overnight at the hotel.

The capital of Greece, Athens is the birthplace of western civilization, and was founded over 3,500 years ago. It, not surprisingly, has an unbelievable number of historical monuments and edifices. In fact, it is a city so seeped in history, the very air you breathe here, laden with the staggering weight of millennia, makes you believe you are back in the ancient world. It is almost impossible to list all the monuments in the city, so here are the most notable, and world famous ones. The Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Statue of Athena, Academy of Athens, Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Arch of Hadrian, and the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. Also visit the Greek Parliament. Some of the best archaeological museums in the world are also in Athens, namely the National Archaeological Museum, the Cycladic Museum, the Epigraphic Museum, and the Byzantine Museum. Visitors must also try the great Greek food. The views from Lycabettus Hill and Areopagus are worth the climb, letting your eyes sweep over in a single glance one of the most ancient cities in the world.
