DESTINATION INFORMATION

HONG KONG

Hong Kong is a hot pot. It is a veritable cornucopia of tastes, smells, sights and sounds, filled to the brim with astounding natural beauty, beautiful people, temperate weather, cuisines galore, vibrant cultures, and a year long party scene. Everything is beautiful: the adults and children placidly practicing Tai Chi on the manicured and sculpted promenades; colourful street side food stalls on streets of neon; and the lush green rolling hills that surround everything. There is a lot to be seen and done in Hong Kong, and no trip is complete without a visit to Victoria's Peak, also known as Mt. Austin (or just Peak). From here you can enjoy a panoramic view of most of the city, soak up the city lights, and look out over Victoria Harbour, and boats and ferries lighting their on way across the already reflecting waters.

Another must do, almost unavoidable in any case, is taking a ride in the clean and efficient metro system (MTR) that's spread over the entire city. Also visit the Aberdeen Fishing Village, take a ferry across Kowloon Bay, check out the melange of cultures at Tsim Sha Tsui, and visit the Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, which is famous for its majestic Giant Buddha.

MACAU

A special economic zone of the People's Republic of China, Macau is an exciting home to a colonial Portuguese heritage, bustling present day commerce, and soaring skyscrapers. Macau is also the only place in China where gambling is not banned, and it is filled with glittering neon casinos, where you can try your luck, and mingle with high-rollers from across the world. The Macau Sky Tower, home of the world's highest bungee jump, must be visited to check out the amazing skyline at its transparent floored viewing deck. The Sky Tower also has many restaurants, shopping malls, theatres and a range of adventurous activities. Other places to visit include Fisherman's Wharf, which is a world theme village, where very block is set in a different country and time, from ancient Rome, to Imperial Japan. Check out the modern Sai Van Bridge at night, with its beautiful blazing lights. Also visit the Statue of Guan Yin, and the A-Ma Temple. And finally, take a city tour on a trishaw.

Giant Buddha at Lantau Island

The Tian Tan Buddha, or the Giant Buddha, is an astounding monument of the Po Lin Monastery on Lantua Island in Hong Kong. An amazing sight, the 34 metre tall bronze Buddha is seated on a lotus throne, surrounded by eight smaller bronze statues of gods. Visitors climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha, though an access for the handicapped is also available. On the 3 floors below the Buddha, lie The Hall of Universe, The Hall of Benevolent Merit, and The Hall of Remembrance.
