A quaint beach resort in Pahang, Malaysia, Cherting is located about 47 km north of Kuantan. It's a typical small and lazy fishing village with a good number of tourists visiting it every year. Lining the east coast of the peninsular, the immaculate and breathtaking Cherating boasts of Asia's first Club Med resort.
Known as 'Surfer's Haven', Cherating is a perfect blend of modern and traditional. Enjoy a activities like batik painting and visiting a cultural village which are very typical of Cherating.
Places to See
Cherating Beach: Enjoy the sprawling white-sand beach by going for surfing as this beach boasts of some of the best surfing waves or just sun bathe.
Mangrove River Tour: Go for river boat tour into the mangrove forest to watch fireflies at night. The guides on tour with you will help you spot various animals, including snakes.
Cherating Turtle Sanctuary Centre: At the sanctuary, see how sea turtles are rehabilitated. Best time to visit is between April and August.
Limbong Art: Visit one of the batik-making boutiques and see the Malaysian art of applying paint and wax to transform fabric into batik artwork. You can also try your hands at making your own batik handkerchief or sarong and also buy some batik creations as souvenirs.
Shopping
There aren't many stores here and if you're looking for local handicrafts like batik and Malay delicacies, then you must head to the roads leading up to the beach. Check out the Kemaman pasar malam (Night market) on Thursday nights for souvenirs and other merchandise.
