Visit the important Buddhist institutions, namely Enchey Monastery, Rumtek Monastery and Do-Drul Chorten complex. Constructed in 1840, Enchey Monastery houses interesting images of gods, goddesses and artefacts of religious significance. On the outskirts of Gangtok town is Rumtek Monastery that boasts of some of the world?s most sacred Tibetan Buddhist scriptures and religious objects. Built by Trulshi Rimpoche, Do-Drul Chorten is one of the largest stupas in Sikkim and a must visit place while on a Gangtok tour. Visit Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which encompasses a huge collection of Buddhist scriptures, statues and tapestries, and masks. Proceed to the upper reaches of the town, to see the Hindu temples Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok, dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Hanuman respectively. For nature lovers, Himalayan Zoological Park and Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Gardens are must visit places. Take a stroll along Mahatma Gandhi Marg (road), which is dotted with numerous hotels, eating joints and various kinds of shops.
