"The room tariff is higher as compared to similar hotels in that area. Even hotels right on the Mall Road or Chaurasta are less costly than this one. The hotel does not have a restaurant, though they offer a limited room service. The quality of their Standard room is pathetic. There must be millions of dust-mites in their so called carpet, which have not been cleaned for ages. Although one can get respite from a hot shower. Only their super-deluxe rooms are worth staying, if one is ready to pay 2000 bucks a day. If there is no electricity, be ready to bear with that, as they donÂ’t run the generator during the day time. The quality of television cable reception is also very poor. Overall, a hotel not worth recommending."

"We booked a double room three nights at the hotel Seven Seventeen. On arrival at 8am, well before check in time were offered a suite decorated in traditional Tibetan style and overlooking Darjeeling from the 5th floor of the hotel. The service was friendly and warm with the owners showing us their prayer room and offering us traditional Tibetan cookies and real Tibetan tea (with salt rather than sugar). The restaurant served the best food we had during our one month stay in India. We returned to the Seven Seventeen after completing the Singalila trek. This time we stayed in a double room which was a bit tight after having been spoilt in the suite. But it was still clean and comfortable. Again the owners treated us like old friends and baked more cookies to take on our next trek. Overall the hotel helped to make our few days in Darjeeling a most enjoyable stay. "

"Standard of the hotel is not up to Sinclair standard. House keeping not up to the mark, Overall upkeep of the property also not up to the mark, staff is not adequately trained. Food is ok and can be improved. Linen is also not changed every day and we need to push people for this."

"The hotel appears to be constructed more than 20 years back when the vicinity was not so congested and it was a very good viewing gallery, though the height of the hotel is too high for the plane land people walk around. This problem would have been toleratedhad the vicinity been so conjested.It is a mixed experience with the hotel.

"POSITIVES about Hotel Sinclairs: The Hotel is centrally located being just a 5 - 10 minutes walk to the Mall Road.
It has a lot of space with a large reception and lobby and big rooms as well as wide corridors. The hot running shower for bath was great. Being at a height, the location of the hotel provides a good panaromic view of the Kanchenjunga Range.
They have built a small outdoor seating area from where you can admire the view. There are also nice small gardens with flowers which some of the rooms have a view of. The food quality was excellent (buffet dinner & breakfast) and the service inside the restaurant was great as well. Bed Tea was served early as per our request and the repeat order was quickly serviced as well.
NEGATIVES about Hotel Sinclairs: there was old furniture in the rooms and the bed sheets, quilts and towels seemed really old and looked unwashed. The wooden floor inside the room made noises of all kinds while walking. The Kanchenjunga Range could not be viewed from the room we stayed in.The setting inside the restaurant is old and the atmosphere was dark & dingy. The sofas at the reception were in a bad shape and the waiters were mostly not in uniform and would walk into the room wearing chappals."

"The best thing about the hotel was that it offered a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (not from all the rooms though). On our way to Gangtok we got stuck in a jam for 3 hours. We called the hotel for our dinner arrangements and the hotel agreed to keep dinner for us if we arrived after 10 pm. We had a great dinner in Tangerine. The restaurant decor is elegant, comfortable and chic. The staff are extremely courteous. The food is good and reasonably priced. And above all, on clear day, you get a glimpse of Mt. Kanchenjunga from the terrace/garden of the restaurant. Another good thing about the hotel is its location. If you walk down for 3 minutes, you reach M.G Marg (great for shopping or just for a walk). It also has a taxi stand nearby. The walk up takes you to a quite neighbourhood which gives you a good view of the towering mountains and the green valley across. Overall, I think itÂ’s a nice place for both romantic getaways and a family holiday."
