"The best thing about the hotel was that it offered a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (not from all the rooms though). On our way to Gangtok we got stuck in a jam for 3 hours. We called the hotel for our dinner arrangements and the hotel agreed to keep dinner for us if we arrived after 10 pm. We had a great dinner in Tangerine. The restaurant decor is elegant, comfortable and chic. The staff are extremely courteous. The food is good and reasonably priced. And above all, on clear day, you get a glimpse of Mt. Kanchenjunga from the terrace/garden of the restaurant. Another good thing about the hotel is its location. If you walk down for 3 minutes, you reach M.G Marg (great for shopping or just for a walk). It also has a taxi stand nearby. The walk up takes you to a quite neighbourhood which gives you a good view of the towering mountains and the green valley across. Overall, I think itÂ’s a nice place for both romantic getaways and a family holiday."

Day 1: Arrival at NJP Railway Station/(IXB) Bagdogra Airport - Gangtok (130 kms /4 to 5 hours)

On arrival at NJP Railway Station/(IXB) Bagdogra Airport (500 feet/150 meters), get assistance to board your vehicle to Gangtok (5500 feet/1677 meters). Check in to your hotel and stay overnight.
Day 2: Gangtok

After breakfast, start for an excursion to Tshangu Lake which is situated at a height of 12400 feet/ 3780 meters/43 km in 3 hours one way, with an average depth of 50 feet. The cool water of the lake is perfectly attuned with the scenic beauty around.

Day 3: Gangtok

After having breakfast, go on a full-day sightseeing covering Rumtek Monastery, Jhakri Water Fall, Droul Chorthen, Research Institute of Tibetology, Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom and Flower Show.

Day 4: Gangtok - Lachung (124 km /5 to 6 hours)
Meals: Breakfast
Get a pick from Gangtok Hotel and transfer to Lachung (8000 feet /2439 meters). On the way, visit Tashi view point, Kabi Longtsok, Seven sisters water fall and Singhik view point. Have lunch en route and stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Lachung - Yumthang - Lachung (25 kms / 1.5 hours one way)

After breakfast, proceed for a half-day excursion to Yumthang Valley (11800 feet/3598 meters). On the way, visit the Hot Spring and the Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary.

Day 6: Lachung - Gangtok

Transfer to Gangtok. On the way, see Bhim Nala water fall and Twin water fall. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Gangtok, an unassuming Himalayan town comes with the quaint charms very much like most hillside towns. And yet its culture and its influences stop it from being clubbed with the rest.
Flung away from the heart of India and in proximity with Tibet, it is most certainly not the quintessential Indian town. Buddhism is prevalent. So are entrancing views of mountains and foliage.
Monks cruising down the street in bikes is a common sight. You cannot miss the numerous monasteries in the city. The mystical Do-Drul Chorten, Enchey Gompa Monastery, Rumtek Monastery, Tashiling Monastery and Phensong Monastery are quite beautiful. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology offers an intimate rendezvous with its culture. Even better are the masked dances and processions during festivals.
Gangtok offers some incredible views of the mighty Kanchenjunga from Tashi Point and its quaint temple, Ganesh Tok. Hanuman Tok is another Hindu temple in this city.
Shoppers and foodies will be delighted. From yummy tea to Tibetan handicrafts and fur jackets, Gangtok's MG Road and Lal Bazaar are only too happy to please. The food is diverse and restaurants serve you traditional Sikkimese dishes, steamed and fried Momos, the wicked Chang and succulent meat that will have you asking for more.
Changu Lake, Saramsa Garden and Banjhakri Falls are all a short drive from the city and are neat getaways whether you want to ride a Yak, sip on hot tea meditatively or have a scrumptious picnic. For a few lessons in history, just drive up to the Nathu La Pass.
Orchids, Snow Leopards, Red Pandas and bamboos have their own sanctuaries in Gangtok that takes the conservation of its greenscape and wildlife seriously.
Not a tourist trap, with little to do and much to discover, experience the art of doing nothing and being everything in Gangtok.
