PACKAGE OVERVIEW

Visit the mist covered hills of Gangtok where pagoda-like wooden houses spring from behind pine trees and where mysticism fills the air as you hear the distant chants from the monasteries drift into your ears. Darjeeling is alive and vibrant with a throbbing market, toy train rides, rope ways and many other places of interest. ITINERARY

DAY 1: NEW JALPAIGURI / BAGDOGRA - KALIMPONG

Arrive at New Jalpaiguri / Bagdogra and take a transfer to Kalimpong (75 kms/ 3 hrs) in the quiet hill resort in eastern Himalaya. Kalimpong is famous for its orchids and nurseries and some of the some of the rarest cacti. Oak, Maple and chestnut stretch up the ridge as far as the eye can reach. Check into the hotel, spend rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 2: KALIMPONG SIGHTSEEING AND TRANSFER TO GANGTOK

In the morning, go on a local sightseeing tour of Kalimpong, covering Durpin Dhara, Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brong Monastery and flower & orchid nurseries and Kalimpong market. Get back to the hotel before lunch. After lunch, take a transfer to Gangtok (80 kms/ 2 hrs), located at an altitude of 5,500 ft. Gangtok, the capital of the state of Sikkim is a beautiful and clean town promising of the best monasteries and landscapes. Spend the evening by yourself for individual activity and leisure. Stay overnight at hotel.

DAY 3: EXCURSION TO TSOMGO LAKE

In the morning, go on a half day trip to Tsomgo lake (12400 ft), which is only 32 kms from Gangtok, the lake is about 1 km long, oval in shape and 15 mtrs deep. The lake is considered sacred by the local people. Spend the evening at Gangtok for shopping and individual activity.

DAY 4: GANGTOK TO DARJEELING

In the morning, take a transfer to Darjeeling (105 km/ 4 hrs), en route visit Teesta river. Take some rest and then walk around the town and appreciate the new culture you are in. Stay overnight at hotel.

DAY 5: DARJEELING SIGHTSEEING

Early in the morning, go to Tiger Hill to watch the spectacular sunrise and its amazing effects on Mt. Kanchendzonga (world's 3rd highest peak). Visit Ghoom Monastery and Batashia Loop War Memorial while returning to the hotel. After breakfast at the hotel, go on a half day local sightseeing tour covering Padmaja N. Zoological Garden (closed on Thursday), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed on Thursday), Tibetian Refugee Self-help Centre (closed on Sunday) and visit the Mall and local market (closed on Thursday). Spend the evening by yourself and go shopping. Stay overnight at hotel.

DAY 6: DARJEELING - BAGDOGRA / NEW JALPAIGURI

In the morning, take a transfer to Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri (95kms / 3hrs) for onward journey. End of tour.

DARJEELING

One word - tea. Made world famous by the brew, tea is everywhere in Darjeeling - drunk in little shacks with curling fumes and hot cups, flowing down slopes like a rolling, green carpet, neatly packaged to be sold in shops. Besides, Darjeeling is the place to be to enjoy Mt. Kanchnajunga's glorious views and Buddhist monasteries.
