ITINERARY

DAY 1: BAGDOGRA / NEW JALPAIGURI - GANGTOK

Arrive at Bagdogra Airport/New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and take a transfer to Gangtok (114 km / 4.5 hrs). Located at an altitude of 5500 ft, Gangtok is the capital of the state of Sikkim and is a beautiful and clean town promising the best monasteries and landscapes. Enjoy the evening at leisure. Stay overnight at hotel.

DAY 2: GANGTOK SIGHTSEEING

In the morning, go on a half day sightseeing tour in and around this capital city of Sikkim, covering Chortan, Stupa, Institute of Tibetology (closed on Sunday) Institute of Handicrafts and Handlooms (closed on Sunday). After lunch, visit Rumtek Monastery and Dharma Chakra Centre (24 kms/45 mins), the sect of the Kagyu order.

DAY 3: EXCURSION TO TSOMGO LAKE

Go on a half day trip to Tsomgo lake (12,400 ft), which is only 32 km from Gangtok, the lake is almost about one km long, oval in shape and 15 metres deep. The lake is considered sacred by the local people. Spend the evening at leisure in Gangtok for shopping.

DAY 4: GANGTOK TO PEMAYANGTSE

In the morning, transfer to Pemayangtse (123 km/6.5 hrs) - en route visit Ravangla - a small township in South Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 6,800 ft, Pemayangtse is a very small Himalayan village in West Sikkim. Pelling is the nearest motorable point from Mt. Kanchendzonga, world's 3rd highest peak and offers a good sunrise view and day long view of Khangchendzonga and the entire Eastern Himalayan range.

DAY 5: PEMAYANGTSE SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast, go on a half day sightseeing tour in and around Pemayangtse, covering Rimbi Falls, Sacred Khechodpalri Lake, Kanchendzonga Falls, Rimbi Power Project and Pemayangtse Monastery - the 2nd oldest monastery of Sikkim. Return to hotel for lunch and enjoy the evening at leisure.

DAY 6: PEMAYANGTSE TO DARJEELING

In the morning, take a transfer to Darjeeling; en-route, visit Pemayangtse Monastery (128 km/5 hrs). Once the summer capital of India, Darjeeling is a land of infinite variety and charm. It offers a varied experience of nature and charming Himalayan people. It is the place of Dorje, the mystic thunderbolt of the Lama - religion. Surrounded by tea gardens, this little town faces some of the Himalayas highest peaks. Take a break to rest and then walk around town to appreciate the culture and beauty. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 7: DARJEELING SIGHTSEEING

Early in the morning, go to Tiger Hill to watch the spectacular sunrise and its amazing effects on Mt. Kanchendzonga (world's 3rd highest peak). Visit Ghoom Monastery and Batashia Loop War Memorial while returning to the hotel. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel followed by half day local sightseeing covering Padmaja N. Zoological Garden (closed on Thursday), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed on Thursday), Tibetian Refugee Self-help Center (closed on Sunday) and visit the Mall and local market (closed on Thursday). Enjoy the evening by yourself or indulge in some shopping. Stay overnight at the hotel.

DAY 8: DARJEELING - BAGDOGRA / NEW JALPAIGURI

Transfer to Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (95 km/3 hrs) to continue onward journey. End of tour.

About an hour's drive from Gangtok is Tiger Hill. Watching the sunrise here is truly spectacular with the Everest and Kanchanjanga mountain ranges in the backdrop.

PELLING

Pelling, a quiet village in West Sikkim is situated close to the famous Pemayangtse Monastery, built in 18th century AD. Pelling is nature's wonder - enjoy astounding views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, go on treks in the woods, sit by the river or enjoy a plate of setaming momos.

Pelling's ethereal scenic landscape cannot be justified through photographs or literature - you have to experience it to believe it. Visit the Khachoed - Palri Lake which, though surrounded by a dense forest, is believed to be so clean that even if a leaf falls in it, a small bird comes to pick it up! Stand under the Rimbi Waterfalls; tread on the Singshore Bridge, the second largest gorge bridge in Asia or visit the ruins of Rabdantse Palace - every moment spent here is priceless.
