Kingfisher Red Airlines History

Kingfisher Red Airlines came into being on August 29, 2008, after a second re-branding of Simplify Deccan commonly known as Air Deccan. All the tickets are now sold by Kingfisher Red with the flight code as 'IT', while 'DN' code used by Air Deccan earlier is discontinued.

Kingfisher Red got its current name after UB Group chief Dr. Vijay Mallya bought it from Air Deccan for around 50% stake. Captain Gopinath launched Air Deccan's first flight on August 23, 2003 from Bangalore to Hubali.

On December 19, 2007 Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines decided to merge with about 50% stake each. According to the deal, in April, 2008 Mallya became the Chairman and CEO of the new company, while Gopinath is its vice-chairman.

It is believed that Kingfisher Red would fly on premium domestic and international routes. Kingfisher Red plans to launch international services in the future to Gulf, South Asia and Southeast Asia. Some of the proposed routes are between Amritsar - Sharjah, Mumbai - Dubai, Delhi - Dubai, Delhi - Lahore, Chennai - Dubai, Goa - Dubai, Kolkata - Dhaka, Bangalore - Bangkok, Dubai - Singapore, and Colombo - Singapore.
